EMDR Therapists in El Cajon, CA
I provide EMDR therapy as well as several other therapeutic modalities to have each of my clients reach a level of success and satisfaction.
I have worked in several areas of mental health care and have truly found my purpose and passion in assisting those who struggle with trauma and/or addiction. I understand how trauma has been locked within the psyche and having an individual feel as though they are stuck within themselves. I understand that addiction was a solution to several problems at the time because it allowed relief but in reality it only masked the underlying issues. My goal for each of my clients is to have them recognize their own strengths and abilities so they may continue or begin to live meaningful lives.

I’m certified in EMDR and trained in other trauma treatments to help you leave your past in the past.
You want to make peace with your past and enjoy the life you’ve built for yourself , but deep down you feel “not enough” and find yourself so overwhelmed that you are just going through the motions. You become irritable “for no reason” and your emotions often get the best of you, making you feel like a horrible person and impacting your relationships. Social interactions leave you exhausted from masking your feelings and overanalyzing everything you said or did. You often think to yourself "Is there something wrong with me?" and you have a sense that painful experiences from your past still affect your life today.

It isn't problems that determine health and well-being, but what we do about them. I believe that problems provide opportunities for personal growth and development. My mission is to help clients find solutions through awareness and possibilities they might not see on their own. I respect the inner health in each person that sometimes becomes buried behind the filters of the thought system. Understanding how you created your thought system frees you to access your inner wisdom instead of allowing your thought system to control you. If you have questions about how I might help you, please contact me.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
