Hi there. I'm Rose. I specialize in working with self-identified "over-thinkers" and "over-feelers." If you identify this way, you might have experienced judgement or ridicule by parents, peer groups, or even from yourself. In our work together, I will listen with an open mind, see you for who you really are, and help you to see yourself with love and acceptance.

My name is Elisa Padilla and I'm an LCSW. I understand the vulnerability required to ask for support and for this reason, I approach therapy with a deep sense of kindness, openness, compassion, humility, and respect. I create a space to address the heaviness that being human can entail because I also see the light and freedom that can be cultivated when we are brave enough to address our emotional wounds. I work with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, self-worth/self-esteem issues, life transitions/adjustments (e.g., role change, relocation), grief/loss (e.g., divorce, death of loved one) and care giver burn out.

I am a former Adjunct Faculty in the graduate program at Cal State Long Beach, and I have a small private practice with a few openings. I work with adults, couples and older teens to help them feel more free, alive and connected with others. Sometimes the work begins by decreasing symptoms such as anxiety, family conflict, depression, trauma reactions, etc. Once those symptoms decrease, the work often evolves into more personal growth work, such as exploring family of origin issues and/or barriers to deeper levels of connection and intimacy.

You carry a weight no one else can see. It’s been there so long, it feels like part of you. A voice inside says, “You’re not enough,” making it hard to trust, open up, or feel truly connected. You stay on edge, bracing for what might come next. Emotions shift without warning—calm one moment, overwhelmed by sadness, anger, or panic the next. You feel exhausted from holding it all together, longing for peace and stability, yet they always seem just out of reach. You want to feel safe again, to breathe deeply, and to know you are enough, just as you are.

Feelings, feelings, feelings. They can be complex painful, rewarding, and sometimes, confusing. Sometimes those feelings and emotions consume us, other times we avoid them either way; they affect us. In this space, I hope to help guide your understanding of what you are experiencing. To acknowledge triggers, and normalize some of your behaviors without excusing them. In all, my goal as a therapist is to create an environment where you feel listened too and important .

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
