As our changing world becomes more complex, it's important to take stock of what matters in life. When emotional struggles result in destructive behaviors, anxiety, and depression, we loose sight of our best selves. Meanwhile, seeking out help for these issues can be awkward! Your comfort in this process is my priority. Our time together will be based on your goals, your concerns, and your unique personality.

Do you feel sad, anxious, and lonely? Do you feel overwhelmed by life changes, situations, and relationships? Are you searching for purpose and joy in living in your daily life because your energy has been drained by difficult life experiences? These experiences can make you feel rootless or less anchored. I can help you through the therapeutic process to build a more joyful habit of mind by taking small consistent steps to free yourself from the heaviness and suffering you may be feeling. Waitlist for new clients
Hi there! I currently have weekday availability for children and teenage clients both in-person and online. I use research-based interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. Beyond this, what I believe makes the greatest impact in a therapeutic success story is the trust in relationship between myself and the client.

As a therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling & meaningful life. If you're looking for extra support/guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you

Instead of looking at therapy as uncomfortable & difficult, consider this… we are our strongest when we have the courage to reveal & repair the most vulnerable aspects of ourselves. This is referred to as reframing, looking at a challenging situation in a new light. Let’s build some positive thinking patterns together. Laughing is also very therapeutic for the brain as it releases endorphins which increases focus, helps us integrate thoughts, & stimulates flexible thinking which are all important components of change & healing.

Do you feel over sensitive or misunderstood, or that patterns keep repeating in your life? Therapy is a unique experience that gets under the patterns to see why and how they got you into a negative space-and then to help get unstuck. Working through your experience of loss can help make sense of the depression or anxiety that are taking too much or your time and energy. That unlocks the natural development of healthy self esteem. Therapy helps you reclaim yourself from the 'unfinished business' of life stresses. Please inquire through email LauraShlien@gmail.com, as calls from this site may get lost and I want to respond to you

Therapy is a collaborative process that can help you live a full and authentic life. While some people think of treatment as a way to address acute and uncomfortable symptoms, it can also be a tool for personal development. Most humans engage in repetitive and self-defeating behaviors that interfere with emotional freedom and growth. My goal as your collaborator and guide is to help you identify those cycles and explore new ways of being in the world to achieve a joyful and fulfilling life.

Welcome! I offer in-person and online psychotherapy services to children, teens, adults, and couples of all ages and identities. Together, and at your pace, we’ll explore your strengths and challenges, developing skills to help you navigate feelings of stress, overwhelm or shut down. These feelings might impact your ability to engage in satisfying relationships, meaningful work, or to feel at ease in your mind and body. A sense of disconnect from yourself or others might result from adverse experiences or relationships, religious or systemic trauma. Perhaps strategies that helped you cope in the past feel limiting or outdated now.

I help women of all ages who feel depleted due to patterns of self-sacrifice.
You’re a woman who was told early on that it was okay to say “no”, but never learned how. Your emotions depend on others' judgments of you, and you’re unsure how to break free from the cycle of pleasing others. You may hide parts of yourself from the rest of the world due to fear of rejection or shame. This pattern of self-abandonment spills over into your relationships manifesting as self-destructive behaviors, unstable emotions, and growing resentments. You hope to trust your own voice and to find peace within yourself.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
