Seeking out therapy is a very heroic action in and of itself, perhaps your first proactive step into redefining your sense of self, creating a new life story, and taking a leap into the direction of self-care. If you are reading this, you may be in a state of uncertainty, or perhaps connected more deeply than you would like to be to the effects of depression, anxiety, or your daily life situations. Maybe, you are wrestling in a relationship with someone you love; perhaps, finding the words to communicate who you are and how you feel may seem unattainable and challenging at best.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families who are struggling with conflicts in their lives, whether they are emotional, psychological, relational or any combination of these. I have also worked with persons with substance abuse issues, abuse/trauma issues, and mental health issues. All of them are looking for healing and restoration to a sense of identity and meaning, which can lead to a greater sense of security and purpose in life. Most seem to want to know themselves and other persons better and feel safe.

We all can feel overwhelmed when dealing with life's obstacles & hurdles. Especially, if our inner child is not in alignment with our higher self. This can wreak havoc on our interpersonal relationships, self-worth, and lovability at times. Life can feel amplified when we harness our authentic values, trust our intuition, embrace emotional regulation & effective communication skills that allows us to connect deeply to self & others. I love working with ambitious professional couples who are ready to heal together & align with their higher purpose.

You've been thinking about this for some time. Waking up to your morning alarm and automatically dreading the day. It's exhausting to put on a brave face and pretend everything is OK, while inside you can't stop criticizing and doubting yourself. How agonizing it can be when you feel compelled to obsess over conversations or the worst moments of your life and sit in that pain. And when you do try to talk to someone they try to give you advice, "look on the bright side", or to try some yoga or something. It's so isolating when it seems like no one understands, so it feels easier to just keep trying to do this all on your own.

Are you finding it difficult to express your needs with someone in your life? Are you concerned that you and your loved one keep misunderstanding each other due to differences in cultural or gendered communication styles? Or perhaps you are happy in your partnership, but are eager to grow together and deepen your bond even further? I can shine a light on those areas of difficulty for you both that remain obscured from view, and illuminate a new way forward.

As an experienced therapist who specializes in anxiety, PTSD/trauma, ADHD, and Autism, I believe that everyone can heal and reclaim control over their lives.
Is the stress of your life overwhelming you? Or has a past experience left you stuck and unable to move forward? You're likely fed up with how anxiety or trauma have crippled your ability to function in everyday life, isolating you from others, and leaving you feeling trapped or hopeless. You might not even remember a time you didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel a sense of confidence. You’re ready to experience a sense of ease. Most of all, you’re ready to reclaim a sense of control over your life.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
