Some of my focal areas are self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship health, unfulfilling behavior patterns, grief, teen issues, young adult issues, early and long-term recovery from substance use, relationship with body and food, and identity exploration.
Are you looking for a therapist who feels like a real person? Getting to the point where you are looking to sort out personal challenges can be very painful - I'm here to help you. Therapy is your time to talk through feelings, evaluate what's working and what isn't, and make choices about how to move forward. As your therapist, I listen and reflect back feelings and insights you share. I help you find connections and meaning in your experiences, and I ask questions to support a new perspective on your situation. I believe in embracing who you are and finding solutions that honor your specific mind, personality and values.

I am a therapist for therapists specializing in complex trauma, low self-esteem, self-harm, substance use, and existential anxiety. As a mental health professional, you may present as successful, but you might internally feel deeply ashamed or unsettled in life. You might also experience fears about your capacity to help clients or manage your emotional well-being. You probably "know" the coping skills and "have the insight," but you're seeking to engage in introspection and resolve deep inner conflicts. You're also open to engaging in a meaningful relationship where you can explore some of the more tender issues in life.

Most of my experience has been with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use/dual diagnosis, self-harm, and grief and loss issues.
Hello! I honor your first step in seeking the support and guidance you might be needing right now. With my years of experience working in mental health, I understand the anxiety that can arise from starting therapy for the first time, or meeting a possible new provider. A safe, validating, and empathetic therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance, and can give you the space you need to explore novel avenues of healing and growth. From my perspective, my role is to help you make new discoveries about yourself, develop greater mental flexibility, and explore valuable tools for handling whatever life throws your way.

Accepting new clients! Life's journey is a remarkable adventure filled with unexpected challenges and pains. I work with teens, adults, and couples to alleviate depression, anxiety, and trauma. I have specialized training and experience working with substance use disorders and addiction. I recognize the allure of quick fixes that offer immediate relief but often lead away from one's true self and cherished connections. In my practice, I employ evidence-based interventions from EMDR therapy, Motivational Interviewing, family systems, and Solution-Based treatment to guide you toward lasting positive change.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
