My name is Dr. Valene Gresham, and I am a psychologist. I have a doctorate degree in clinical and forensic psychology. I also have a master's degree in marriage and family therapy. I specialize in individual and couples therapy for clients ages 18 and up. I specialize in anxiety and depression management, self-esteem and confidence building, life coaching, relationship issues, major life transitions, couples therapy, student support, and trauma in all ages. Also, I have several years of experience working with specialized groups such as police officers and government officials.

I believe that people experience their own unique perspectives and ways of dealing with problems that can affect their day-to-day lives in significant ways. Not everyone might understand how hard it can be to move through life with added challenges that result from difficult life circumstancesI prefer to utilize an active approach to therapy; I want to help you reach your goals by understanding the factors that may contribute to you feeling overwhelmed and, at times, helpless.

Welcome to my practice. I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

I provide Evaluation Services, including (and not limited to): diagnostics (ADHD, Autism, Learning Dis.), cognitive/neuropsychological evaluations, workers' compensation (QME/AME), immigration-related evaluations, pre-adoption psychological evaluations, parenting/bonding assessments, drug & alcohol evaluations, pre-employment evaluations, and legal/forensics/criminal evaluations. These evaluations may be used to meet eligibility for certain services or accommodations.

While I specialize in treatment of trauma/PTSD, substance use disorders, active duty and retired military, and first responders, I am comfortable treating a wide range of presenting problems experienced by adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and religions. Base on your needs, I integrate a variety of approaches to therapy, including Emotion-Focused Therapy due to its focus emotional healing and its warm, supportive stance. In addition to more traditional approaches to therapy, I integrate holistic practices, such as yoga and meditation.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Professor of Psychology.
