I have worked in a broad range of mental health settings and have intensive postdoctoral training through the San Diego Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.
Many people seek therapy because they feel stuck, they need help recognizing and removing the road blocks so they can create the lives and relationships they want. I work collaboratively with my clients to do just that, to help them better understand themselves and their struggles so they are free to build the lives they want.

Sentiero is an outpatient practice comprised of school psychologists, clinical psychologists, and registered psychological associates who conduct psychotherapy and psychological assessments. The approach at Sentiero is not a “one size fits all” model. While many of our clinicians utilize various theoretic modalities, we are grounded in psychoanalytic theory and tailor treatment to the needs of the patient.

With passion and care I help clients navigate emotional obstacles. I treat individuals struggling with personal issues which stop them from reaching their full potential. Understanding emotional boundaries, not owning others issues and accepting the fact that the more true we are to our own truth the happier we are regardless of our circumstances are foundational in my practice. I truly believe in each person's ability to grow and reach for joy and fulfillment.

My specialized post-graduate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy enables me to guide you, so we can explore what's beneath your distress.
Hello, I'm a licensed clinical psychologist working with adults in individual and couple's therapy. If you struggle with adjusting to a new phase of life, a new career or living in Southern California, you are not alone. Sometimes people can feel anxious or empty inside even though on the outside, their lives are looking fine. You've tried to hide those sad and lonely feelings from your friends and family, but feeling disconnected from those that you want to be close with is painful. You've noticed doing all kinds of things to not feel out of control.

Our childhood experiences shape the way we view and experience ourselves, others, and the world. When we understand why we think, feel, and behave the way we do, we can begin to accept our past and enjoy our present. I use the past strategically to connect the dots to today’s unhelpful patterns that are no longer serving you and causing distress in your life. We will work together on identifying and changing self-defeating patterns, developing healthier ways to manage emotions and challenging situations, resolving past traumas and inner conflicts, and uncovering the underlying meaning and purpose of your behaviors.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
