I know how hard it can be to open up to a new person. Trust between you and your therapist is key for successful treatment and I want to help ease the transition. In the session we will work to unpack how you are managing emotionally, cognitively, physically, spiritually, and socially. My training has focused on high functioning individuals who may be successful in many domains (e.g., students, professionals) but are looking to improve functioning across the board. Let's look at past, present and future. We can collaborate to find the path for you - whether it is your first time or this is part of a long history in treatment.

I work with individuals and couples who present with a diverse collection of strengths, challenges, and goals in life. I provide a space, whether in person or telehealth, that allows for people to feel accepted for who they are without judgement or shame. I work along side each individual or couple to define goals of treatment so we know when to celebrate or to redefine our objectives. I like to explore values, emotions and thoughts to identify opportunity for positive change. In addition to these qualities of my practice, my perspectives are grounded in feminist principles, Buddhist philosophy, and attachment theory.

I typically work with adults who come into therapy feeling uncomfortable and unsure. Many of my clients experience anxiety, notice that they might feel things more intensely than others, and are feeling out of place in a few different parts of their lives. I notice that these feelings are often accompanied by a sense of disembodiment - an uncertainty about how one's body reflects how they feel or a detachment from one's body, which causes great distress. Often, traumatic experiences have impacted the mind, body, and inner experiences of my clients and support is needed to explore these areas and to begin the healing process.

Anxiety, shame, and chronic guilt; you don’t know how to relax, and you probably don’t sleep very well. The perfectionism is crippling, and you're exhausted. Maybe you're a people-pleaser with terrible boundaries, or a former “gifted and talented” kid, or a child of immigrants always reaching for "good enough." Your inner critic is loud. Anxious perfectionism may also show up as body tension and panic attacks; procrastination and indecision; an overwhelming to-do list; and difficulty in relationships. Perfectionists don't already do things perfectly—they feel like they HAVE to do better, but they’re ALWAYS falling short.

I am passionate about my work, because it allows me to help people become their best selves. For over thirty years, I have helped my clients to improve the quality of their lives by helping them to see that their struggles are not because there is something wrong with them, but because something wrong happened to them. My vision for my clients is that they learn how to practice self-compassion, to let go of debilitating shame, to live an authentic life, and to experience true joy.

We all carry wounds that run deeper than we’d like to admit. Sometimes these wounds continue to affect us in the present, even if we hope we’ve put the past firmly behind us. Maybe you’re struggling with people-pleasing patterns, self-judgment, or perfectionism. Perhaps it’s hard to identify how you feel or what you really need. Or maybe you just have a nagging sense that something isn’t quite right. I help clients address anxiety, codependency, trauma, and more in order to reclaim their lives and build the future they want. As a queer therapist, I also specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Life is full of up and downs, transitions, discoveries and lessons and it can be difficult navigating it all. Therapy can be a dedicated safe space for you to process your unique experience (the struggles, the joy and everything in between). I work with and support people ages 17+ and as a member of the LGBTQIA2S community I am committed to supporting individuals who also identify as LGBTQIA2S. I’ve spent my career advancing LGBTQ+ health equity at UCLA Health by developing and managing the UCLA Gender Health Program and currently work on the inpatient psychiatry unit at UCLA.

Welcome! I specifically work with neurodiversity at my practice. Neurodiversity is a fancy way of saying that I work with all different brain types or "neurotypes" in my practice. I work with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing issues, among other neurotypes. I am a neurodivergent therapist myself, and my lived experience helps me to empathize and relate to my clients deeply. I take an affirming lens in my sessions, combating stigma and ableism, and assisting my clients to become more fully themselves. I am EMDR trained and trauma informed in my approach to therapy.

If you have faced trauma in your life, you know that self-doubt, relationship struggles, and a fear of abandonment can follow you. Feeling alone, disconnected, and stuck is most often traced back to our past. My role as your therapist is to be your guide through this despair. Motivation is the hardest aspect of making changes in your mental health, so I use an approach that combines trauma treatment with a "coaching" mindset. You are ready to leave a lack of self-worth behind, and instead find confidence in your body, in your relationships, and in your future. We will find your resilience & pave a path forward for a better future.

My ideal client is anyone—individuals, couples, or families—yearning for a compassionate and culturally attuned therapeutic journey. They face life's challenges with resilience, eager to embrace the vibrancy of feeling "alive." Seeking a therapist who comprehends the impact of social inequities on wellness and life quality, they aligns with my values. Together, we navigate towards the restoration of a beloved community, unlocking the fullness of their lives beyond the burdens. My commitment lies in fostering a therapeutic space where they feel profoundly "seen" and empowered to pursue the desires of their hearts.

I'm here to help you work through anything that's on your mind and will help you explore new perspectives you may not have considered. I believe there is no right way to do therapy or take care of your mental health. I am always open to feedback on what works for you and what doesn't. Our time will involve making connections, identifying patterns/themes, and reframing old stories that no longer serve you. Together, we’ll work towards increasing self-discovery, emotional well-being, and empowerment in your life.

If you're looking to live your best life and need a safe place to work through life's challenges, I can help! I support people with anxiety, self esteem struggles, interpersonal or relationship issues, life transitions, career difficulties, managing stress, feeling "stuck", health concerns, family conflict, and/or depression. We humans are wired for connection – we need it on the most basic level. But humans are the worst! And the best! Let’s just say: humans are complicated. We need each other, but we hurt each other, so we create these little ways to keep ourselves safe…but those ways might not be working anymore. That’s where I come in - I work with people who are experiencing distress within themselves and in their relationships. Therapy with me focuses on identifying and unpacking the unhelpful beliefs and patterns that keep you stuck, and then learning new ways of relating to yourself and others that make you feel ….. happy!?! It’s possible.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
