I work with individuals, couples and groups with a wide range of clinical issues including depression, insomnia, anxiety and stress, relationship issues, trauma, grief and loss, medical health issues (adjustment to and management of chronic diagnoses, infertility, pain, prenatal and postnatal health, bariatric assessment, business & workplace concerns), and life transitions (marriage, college, retirement, parenthood etc.
I work at ARC Counseling and Wellness both online and in person. I utilize treatment approaches based upon the unique needs of each client while considering the scientific efficacy of each therapeutic intervention. My experience and training have made me sensitive to the fact that no two clients are the same and thus I approach treatment with consideration of each client's values, cultural identity, religious or spiritual beliefs, strengths, and life experiences. I endeavor to provide a supportive therapeutic environment in which clients may become empowered and move towards a greater quality of life.

I combine a variety of techniques and theories to find what is most helpful to each client on issues such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, grief and loss, relational/marital issues, as well as faith related issues.
My belief is that we are happiest when we are mentally, spiritually, and physically balanced. Sometimes things happen that disrupt this balance, and impact our ability to lead a fulfilling life. My goal is to partner with people to discover balance, as well as provide hope and healing to those who are hurting. I know it can be uncomfortable thinking about going to counseling, and many wait until things seem hopeless. I believe that there is always hope, and with the right tools and support, you can move forward and begin enjoying life to the fullest.

With this approach I have learned how to support individuals struggling with complex trauma, eating disorders, body image issues, self worth struggles, depression, and anxiety.
˜Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen. ' - Brené Brown. Taking the step to either start or continue therapy takes courage and vulnerability. I recognize this and strive to meet the people I support with compassion and empathy. I work alongside you to help you explore your story, develop insight into the barriers that led to unhealthy coping/cycles with yourself and relationships with others. I do this through various therapeutic modalities (ACT, EFT, CBT, DBT, EMDR, psychodynamic) that will help you explore your thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and connect to the choices impacting your behaviors.

I enjoy working with a variety of issues, however my specialty areas include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image and immigration issues.
It can be painful to struggle with issues and wish that they might somehow disappear. I understand how these issues can sometimes make you feel your life is stuck and that they can prevent you from living or enjoying your life more fully. I also know how difficult it can be to seek help or talk about these issues. This is why it is my approach to get to know each client and find an individualized and unique path to addressing the issues that are preventing them from creating a greater sense of well-being and happiness.

I struggled immensly with anxiety and depression for many years. In my teens and twenties I was in and out of emergency rooms because of panic attacks. In 1997 I started studying mindfulness meditation with Jon Kabat-Zinn and everything changed from that point forward. Once I learned how to have better control over my thoughts and emotions, anxiety and depression became much easier to deal with. I became a therapist and mindfulness teacher to help others gain the same skills.

I have helped my clients address an array of topics including anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodivergence, identity, and family relationships.
We were all children once, and I believe the experiences of our childhoods have a lasting impact on the adults we become. Maybe you are the child of a parent who tried their best but did not have the resources to help you cope with challenging emotions. Maybe you are a parent trying to do things differently from your own upbringing. Maybe you are a part of a larger cycle of intergenerational or systemic trauma and are feeling the lasting impact of that pain. I am passionate about supporting my clients in recognizing unhelpful cycles to navigate new paths toward a healthier, happier life through exploration and healing.

I have extensive experience working with individuals, including military veterans, impacted by trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationships, issues of identity, life transitions, and those who feel adrift and are looking to find a direction once again.
I have expertise in a variety of treatments, and believe that as we are all individuals, therapy should be tailored to what works best for the individual. I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist and received my doctoral degree from Azusa Pacific University. My graduate degree placed an emphasis on Systemic Therapy, which means I have a great respect for the impact that cultural, spiritual, and generational factors can have on our lives, our sense of meaning and purpose, and our overall sense of well-being, and I take these things into consideration when engaging in therapy.

Depression and anxiety are 2 of the most commonly diagnosed disorders in America, and many people are struggling unnecessarily.
Life is already quite difficult without that added everyday stressors that we encounter along the way. It can make us feel alone, defeated, hopeless, scared, and worried about our futures and our loved ones. When someone feels this way, it's hard to reach out for support. Maybe it's because we don't want to feel like being a burden to others, or because we don't want people to know our personal struggles. In reality, our life struggles are much more commonly shared than we actually realize. Most of us just want to be content in life. You are not alone! I understand, and together we will get you where you want to be in life.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
