I focus on children with grief and loss issues.
Today you are one step closer to helping your child and family get back on a positive path to growth and well-being. Life can take many turns and you may find that your child needs extra help dealing with daily struggles. You may notice your child having a harder time in areas that used to be easy for them. You may also notice your child regressing to old ways of coping that you thought they had out grown. Or perhaps there has been a major change or loss in the family, and you are just not sure that your child is processing it well.

I have worked intensively with clients impacted by grief/ loss, trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse, chemical/co-dependency, anger/impulse control problems, and life transitions.
I believe we come to our most difficult passages in life at opportune times in order to grow toward our true capacity and purpose. I respect that my clients possess the seeds of awareness and expertise to find answers and solutions to their own problems. My role is to facilitate a compassionate perspective to assist in working through difficult emotions, reactive defenses, or protective habits, and open attention back to fruitful areas. I am an advocate for personal development, collaborating in finding useful vantage points for expanding visibility, encouraging resolution, and resumption of the innate growth process.

At one point or another, we all experience a difficult phase in life. Trauma, interpersonal conflicts, fears about the future, and illness can lead us to feel isolated and defeated. These feelings can be overwhelming at times and take a toll on our quality of life, relationships, and self worth. Many of my clients are living with a chronic illness and trying to navigate the loss of a pre-diagnosis life in the hopes of gaining a better understanding of a post-diagnosis identity. Other clients have a history of trauma or attachment wounding that is still negatively impacting their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

I treat trauma, victims of crime, PTSD, grief, anxiety, depression, addiction, self-esteem issues, self-sabotaging behaviors, stress, OCD, ADHD, domestic/sexual violence and abuse, anger management, personality disorders, separation and divorce.
We all strive to be happy in life. Unfortunately life is full of unpredictable struggles that get in the way of our path to happiness. To gain true happiness we must learn how to love ourselves. Loving ourselves starts with self-understanding and believing in ourselves. Struggles unfortunately make us believe that things are not meant to be, or that we will simply never be happy. This negative pattern of thinking is what keeps us from finding happiness. Remember, we have all the tools within us to achieve happiness and create the life we love.

My goal as your therapist is to provide a safe place for you to explore your feelings and experiences that occur after/during life changes, may resurface past traumas, grief, and loss.
During times of life changes, trauma, grief, and loss it is easy to forget about your inherent strengths and resilience when you are struggling to function in your daily activities and create inner peace. Your experiences may feel like they are piling up against you, you may feel unbalanced, and may be are struggling to find a way to maintain safety and security for yourself. During times of need, you may forget how to navigate through life's challenges and take care of yourself. I work with individuals who are trying to create stability and wellness in all areas of their lives with a supportive guide by their side.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
