I am Accepting New Clients! Who do you and your family talk to when you are seeing your child/teen struggle with school, peer and family relationships, anger, depression, anxiety, OCD, or behaviors that are impacting their safety and well-being? The feeling of powerlessness that what you are trying isn't helping and your child is not getting better can be very overwhelming. The beautiful part of it is that you are willing to support them through it. I believe that as a parent, you are doing your best and that's already setting your child up for best outcomes!

Parenting is hard whether you are trying to conceive or in the thick of toddlerhood. You wonder if you are doing enough and if you will ever feel like you got this. You are surprised at how anxious and disconnected you feel and are very hard on yourself. You often feel guilty no matter what choice you make. In our work together, you can learn coping strategies, process trauma, develop self compassion, and learn parenting strategies to build your confidence.

I am particularly interested in life transitions including, but not limited to perinatal, postpartum, parenting, elderly/aging, premarital, and grief and loss concerns.
I believe in working with children, teens, and adults through a combination of guidance and direction. Therapy can involve relieving stress in family relationships and improvement in overall quality of life for those in treatment. A lot of time and energy are spent with all other aspects in life, why wouldn't we invest growth and enrichment with our loved ones?

I believe everyone can benefit from a safe place to process the past and present and realize goals for the future. In my work people can expect me to provide a safe, open and engaged relationship to address life hopes and challenges. Meeting people where they're at is the most important starting point. Then together we help someone envision the future and realize their potential.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
