Do you have a teen that struggles with anxiety or self-esteem? You only want the best for your child, so it’s heartbreaking to see them have difficulties with their friendships, school, or even enjoying their usual hobbies. Or, perhaps your family has gone through some recent life transitions, and your teen is still adjusting to those changes. Through therapy, my goal is to give your teenager a space for them to freely express themselves, discover their strengths, and know that they don’t have to go through their struggles alone.

Hello, my name is William Webster and my approach to the therapeutic process is to engage in a collaboration with an individual to support change in the areas of anxiety, trauma, depression, parenting, employment, and changes that occur over the course of one's life. My focus would be to learn about the individual's life to support healing and change in the areas of depression, anxiety, parenting, employment challenges, and life changes. In sessions, I strive to create an atmosphere of calm consideration that encourages exploration of the circumstances as well as the development of steps to reduce one's current struggles.

These issues underlie many diverse diagnoses and problems, including codependence, addiction, social anxiety and isolation, performance and relationship anxieties, and depression.
Hello, I am Myrna V. Echols, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist in California since 1981. Over many years of practice, I have used many theories and tools. In the 1980's I called myself a transpersonal psychotherapist, meaning that my perspective included wisdom from all of the world's spiritual traditions. Currently, my tools come most from Transformational Neurolinguistic Programming, along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The foundation of my approach is deep respect for who you are now, for where you want to be, and for the past that has brought you to this moment, no matter how dark it may be.

I work with adolescents and adults across a range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationships issues, addiction and drug abuse.
Making the decision to seek help in order to make a change in your life can be difficult. However, change doesn’t need to occur overnight but rather can occur on a day-to-day basis. Within the safe environment that therapy can provide, you can start on your own journey of healing and leading the life that you want.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
