I believe that childhood experiences have a deep impact on relationships and perspectives. In order to thrive wholly, we have to get to the heart of the matter. I create a warm environment in order for you to change thought process, rebuild your relationships, and treat depression and anxiety that has rooted from past trauma. I have included virtual sessions for individuals who may not be able to attend office visits.

I have a special interest in working with couples and families and in doing Dream Work with my individual clients. Much of the therapeutic work I do is based on the theories of Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, & James Hillman. However, I do balance my practice using other therapeutic techniques from other theorists as well. It is not so important for me to apply a certain theory or my own beliefs on a client but instead it is my intention to really understand my clients' own personal beliefs and expectations of therapy. I enjoy working with young adult and adolescent clients and the age-specific issues that these groups commonly experience. It's so difficult to be at an age where you're expected to act like an adult but are still treated like a child - this experience can be confusing and breed feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. I work with my clients to help normalize these feelings and experiences as well as help them make sense of things in the world and within themselves through the transition from adolescence into adulthood.

Anxiety and depressive states are running high these days. I bring my experiences with depth work and mindfulness to open dialogue, allowing us to live a more conscious life, and explore our feelings and the undeveloped parts of us. I bring experience in art, dream work, writing, film, and poetry to sessions for those who are interested. Cognitive therapy and mindfulness are used to connect and understand our bodies, emotions, and thoughts. I work in a non directive approach focusing on the issues you bring. I enjoy helping people gain understanding into the Self and how they interact in the world.

I believe that my experience studying and teaching philosophy, along with my passion for Jungian psychology, make me especially well-suited for facilitating this process.
It's common to feel uncomfortable in the face of change. Most people experience stress when negotiating demands of college or a career, managing relationships, adapting to adulthood, transitioning during mid- and late-life, or losing a loved one, for example. Sometimes, though, stressors like these can throw you off balance and summon your worst demons. Discomfort can morph into self-doubt, disappointment, crippling feelings of inferiority, anxiety, or compulsive behavior. As a result, you might feel hopeless, alienated, misunderstood, and as if life were meaningless.

My name is Celeste Ryan. I use a mixture of depth psychology ( Jungian) and somatic experiencing. I am also attachment focused. I work both virtually and in person. I work mostly with individuals and couples. But also, with adolescents and children. Work with developing affect tolerance (nonreactivity).

Being a Jungian Analyst is more than a vocation, it’s a calling.
"Seeking out a therapist and entering therapy can sometimes be an intimidating prospect. My goal as a therapist is to create a therapeutic environment that puts a client at ease and supports self-exploration in a safe, comfortable atmosphere. A client's desire for growth and change is a very personal journey and I believe in an individualized approach that supports each person's expressed need. Life is littered with suffering in different forms and I want to aid my clients in developing a deeper understanding of this suffering and meaning to what may feel meaningless."

The main reason why couples seek counseling is due to a communication breakdown that begins to dismantle an otherwise healthy relationship. Our primary need is to be understood, but if partners are using different modes of communication, there can be a disconnect. DT can provide the jump-start to help find the excitement and communication that couples experienced at the beginning of a relationship, and the common ground that can build a stronger place from which to build trust. In learning more about the roles we play, DT offers partners the opportunity to gain greater insight about themselves and about their problems in relationships.

Jungian Therapists

How does Jungian therapy work?

Jungian therapy, also called analytical psychology, focuses on a patient’s inner experiences and unconscious mind. Exploring a person’s unconscious mind can be achieved through several means, including the analysis of memories and dreams, and through physical exercises, such as art, dance, and word association.

How long does Jungian therapy last?

Jungian therapy is an intensive treatment type. Because its goal is to understand a person as a whole, including the unconscious aspects of them, treatment can range from months to years. Since patients learn the theory behind Jungian therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have completed.

Is Jungian therapy effective?

According to studies, many patients find success with Jungian therapy, and the century-old treatment has a devoted following. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving relationships, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Improvements in problem areas seem to continue even after the end of Jungian therapy, as people are able to continue working on themselves using the tools they’ve learned during the treatment.

Is Jungian therapy evidence-based?

Jungian therapy is theory-based, derived from the theories of Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist often called one of the fathers of psychology, along with Sigmund Freud. Jung developed his theories from observing the problems of patients, and developed many theories of how the mind works. Subsequent psychological research has determined that Jungian therapy can lead to significant improvement in most patients.
