My background is primarily in the area of grief and loss, but I have also worked within a school system and at an intensive outpatient psychiatric program at a hospital, treating clients with a wide variety of issues and diagnoses.
I believe everyone can use some extra support sometimes. Whether you are seeking therapy to address a specific issue or because life feels overwhelming in general, I am here to help you identify your strengths, figure out how to cope with challenges, and guide you to increase your self esteem. Everyone's needs are unique, and I use a variety of evidence-based modalities. I provide a safe space for people to explore their deepest vulnerabilities with me. I am an empathetic listener, sensitive, compassionate, and I value the power of humor.

In my family practice, I often work with children, teens and parents following a meaningful loss, through the challenges of a life transition or a period of anxiety and stress. Many of my clients are processing grief and loss, which comes in may forms.

I specialize in treating acute stress, trauma & addictions, grief & loss, and relationship issues.
Are you tired of traditional talk therapy? Overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety, or fear and stress? Maybe you feel like you've already done "so much work on yourself" and yet you still engage in some self-defeating patterns. This may show up in dating the same dysfunctional type of person, or acting out childhood patterns at work, overworking to please your boss without being recognized. You may lack patience or sometimes get impatient with your partner/children, the same way your parents were with you. Or maybe you shut down when you need to speak up, since many of us were taught to be "good little girls and boys". I can help.

I also help with anxiety, depression, grief/ loss, phobias, addictions, worries, feeling stuck or confused, relationship dissatisfaction, loneliness, life transitions, and more.
Here's what I want you to know: You were born ready and able to be happy, and have a satisfying life--that's natures way. And, yet, at any point in life there can be many 'causes & reasons' for life turning in a different direction; and there can be many kinds of 'symptoms & behaviors’ that emerge when things go sideways; and when this occurs, we all can use some support to get back on track. For right now, just know that reaching for support is itself a sign of strength, and is also built into our human nature.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the states of California and Missouri. I take a collaborative approach to therapy and work with clients to establish goals. Together we identify problem areas and work to find a balanced solution. Often, I incorporate humor in my therapeutic approach as well as nontraditional therapy techniques such as creative arts therapy. I believe the key to an effective therapeutic relationship is one that entails trust, mutual respect, sensitivity and understanding. Currently I am offering virtual services throughout the states of California and Missouri.

If you’ve found your way to my profile, I imagine there is some part of your life that feels less-than-ideal. Change is possible and you’ve just taken the first step. Do you experience anxiety or unwanted thoughts or have OCD? Do you find yourself worrying excessively about your safety or that of your loved ones? Is anxiety or self-doubt keeping you from getting what you want out of life, interfering with your relationships, or keeping you stuck? Are you struggling with your self-esteem, body image, or perfectionism?

In my mind, the ideal psychologist is validating, transparent, practical, and experienced. As both a board certified CBT and DBT therapist, I teach tangible tools to get "unstuck" based on scientific research within a nonjudgmental, warm, environment. My hope is to help you move toward the life you want and create some distance from the thoughts and behaviors that might get in your way. My goal isn't only to help you feel better, but to holistically live better. I really enjoy working with college and graduate students, people pursuing life changes (such as career, relationship), and individuals facing medical problems.

Perhaps you’re here looking for a therapist here because someone told you, whether warmly or angrily: “You should get some help!” What you probably heard - and what they may have meant - was: you need to change. Unlike many, I don’t believe people need to change. The way I see it and how I work is to show my clients how to expand themselves - by adding in more useful and productive ways to think and act than they’ve done before. This results in my clients actually feeling better and functioning better. I work in a respectful and growth-filled manner, sometimes suggesting to my clients questions to elicit their self-knowledge.

Perhaps the most important variable in therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. When meeting with new clients, I aim to establish a close and accountable working relationship as a basis for ongoing growth in your life. I give and welcome a lot of feedback, which improves the therapeutic relationship.

Therapy offers a unique opportunity to explore unconscious assumptions and emotional defenses that cause problems. Painful, confusing feelings become important guides to understanding parts of yourself that don't make much sense. Are you troubled by longstanding pervasive issues with relationships, depression, anxiety, emptiness or self-esteem? Do you have a sense that your problems may stem from childhood wounds or past experiences? People are often unaware of the feelings and behaviors that influence their lives. Greater self awareness helps new healthier parts of yourself to emerge, which helps you make better choices.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
