Utilizing mindfulness, self-compassion, EMDR, IFS, mindfulness-based CBT, and other modalities I offer to facilitate self-inquiry, you can shape your emotional and cognitive life to embrace change with more skill, less fear, and the peace and self-empowerment that come when you engage with reality exactly as it presents itself.
All human beings are capable of meaningful and lasting transformation. All of us, regardless of whether we are 6 or 60, can use our minds to change our brains to change our minds to... well, you get the picture. This is thanks to a phenomenon called "neuroplasticity." Neuroplasticity says that neurons that fire together wire together. Through the intentional development of new skills for choosing healthier thoughts and responses to life's challenges, we can actually change the structure of our brains. This gradual transformation of our neurology allows us to restructure our lives to eliminate needless suffering.

Also, I'm trained in Attachment Focused EMDR (EMDRIA Certified) and Trauma Resiliency Model which focuses on PTSD, long-term exposure to neglect, physical, and sexual abuse, and drug and alcohol dependency.
Most of us come into therapy seeking change. Maybe we hurt too much, feel lonely, depressed, anxious, or hate our job. Our relationship might be faltering or we're feeling overwhelmed by the family. What I've learned is that we come into therapy thinking that we have one story, or narrative, and that narrative is set and fixed. I believe we've forgotten that we have a multitude of stories, or alternative narratives. Those alternative narratives can be discovered and shed light on new options and possibilities, while expanding our understanding of what we once believed was unalterable.

I have advanced training in EMDR (trauma), sex addiction and couples work.
I work with individuals and couples in the areas of sex, relationships, sex addiction, and life transitions (divorce, empty nest, retirement). Relationships with others (partner, employer, siblings, friends, clients) are a central source of meaning and sometimes difficulty for us. I can work with you around relationship issues, including commitment, communication, sexuality, infidelity and healthy conflict. I'm also offering groups for women and couples wanting to unlock their sexual satisfaction.

I offer breathwork and Attachment-Focused EMDR, both somatic modalities to help clients transform the effects of trauma and heal attachments.
At its best, therapy is a ritual space where you can come to explore your inner world, develop a relationship with your intuition and make meaningful changes in your life. A true healing experience requires the integration of mind, body and spirit — to release the patterns that no longer serve you, and create neural availability for an expanded experience of self. My practice is rooted in the science and art of holistic healing, blending modern depth-oriented psychotherapy with somatic modalities to support you in the pursuit of well-being and more fulfilling relationships.

Trauma can leave profound imprints on our lives, often manifesting as emotional or somatic pain, anxiety, or persistent feelings of being stuck in a state of fight or flight. My therapeutic practice is centered around the integration of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and animal-assisted therapy, designed to support your personal journey toward emotional well-being. EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps reprocess distressing memories, facilitating significant shifts in how you experience and understand past events.

I employ eclectic therapy modalities, although often utilize EMDR as a base for assisting clients with difficult thoughts and feelings that seem to be stuck.
Hello, my name is Angela Castellanos, I am a licensed psychologist and I have been working in the field of mental health for over fifteen years. I specialize in EMDR, CBT, and mindfulness focused therapies to assist my clients in reaching their goals or alleviating distress they are experiencing in the here and now. I prioritize trust and open mindedness in the relationships I create with my clients and realize that no two people and no two stories are the same. I believe we can all be freer of troubles and anxieties, and strive towards self actualization, balance, and inner peace.

I treat trauma using EMDR and a somatic approach to healing.
People often hear about Complex PTSD and feel that they have finally the words to describe their emotional experience. Trauma comes in many forms and it remains in your body long after the traumatic events have occurred. I help clients learn to understand their past and learn to thrive in the present. I especially enjoy working with PTSD and C-PTSD, first responders, sexual assault survivors, Single Mothers by Choice (SMBC), women navigating infertility-related stress, and neurodivergent adults newly diagnosed with ADHD and/or Autism

I have come to specialize in helping teens and young adults navigate their personal stress, as well as the stressors of today’s world and the lingering impact of the lockdown on their formative years. I also have vast experience working with parents (either individually or along side their children) and helping them navigate their role, improve communication, and nurture their relationships. My third focus area includes working with women of varying ages who find themselves in transition; whether that’s with their career, their relationship(s), and/ or are looking to start their family (see below).

If we are lucky in this life we will experience many inner deaths, each an opportunity to shed parts of self, to embrace our own expansion, and enter the next dimension of life. If we fail to die, we fail to grow. We have lost the ritual container that holds our rites of passage and without the containment and guidance that goes with it many of us feel lost, hopeless, deficient in some way and without a sense of belonging. Therapy in the depth tradition has become a space to compassionately witness and accompany individuals in the alchemical process of healing and growth.

To the benefit of growth and healing for every client, regardless of issues, needs or goals, are readiness, willingness, vulnerability and transparency. The more we are curious about ourselves, the better we can learn. The more we learn about ourselves, the better we can understand. Navigating the profound pain of losing a loved one is one of life's greatest challenges. You might be feeling misunderstood because no one seems to understand the profound depth of your pain. You might worry about overwhelming others if you were honest about how you're really feeling. You might feel constantly irritable and on-edge or numb and just exhausted. You might worry about not honoring your loved one properly, or what it means if you were to seek out joy again.

Therapy is not something I "do" to you; it is a collaboration and conversation we have together. I look forward to walking beside you as you access a place within that feels more like home. There is no one way to move toward healing. I use an emotionally-focused (EFT), humanistic and somatic understanding while keeping the very human need for attachment and relationship at the heart of our work together. Many clients feel and notice a shift toward increased authenticity, flow, ease and joy in their lives after working together. (Now accepting COUPLES).

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
