I am trained in many treatment orientations, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic approaches, humanistic and existential psychotherapy, EMDR, stress-reduction techniques, creative visualization, and dreamwork.
My approach to my clients is warm, open, and accepting, and, at the same time, I am ready and willing to provide direct and honest feedback. I enjoy bringing a sense of humor and creativity, as well as strong professional ethics to my work. While my initial goal is to work together with my clients to relieve depression, anxiety, trauma, and other problems, ultimately I work with the whole person to develop and utilize his or her strengths to find balance and self-acceptance and to become more open to deeper experiences of love and joy.

I warmly welcome you as you are, and hold a safe space to support your growth as your guide, witness, and companion. I enjoy working with clients who want more than traditional “talk” therapy. I offer experiential therapy, so you can go beyond cognitive understanding to having a transformative experience. I have an active style that is more than simply listening. I would describe the way I work as collaborative, curious, and challenging when it needs to be. I identify as a highly sensitive person (HSP) of gifted intelligence, both of which inform my work. My approach is mindfulness-based and somatic.

Welcome! It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help, and it's crucial that you find a therapist you connect with-someone who can really see you so that you can begin to truly see yourself. I see part of my role as helping you bring light into your dark moments & to help you discover what keeps you stuck so that you can live a life of greater peace & freedom. In the last 15 years, I’ve been trained in a wide range of therapies, from IFS, somatic & mindfulness based approaches to CBT and DBT. I believe that good therapy is both science and art, and each session is its own unique encounter.

You were born with innate potential and natural abilities, yet it may be easy to forget your personal power if you struggle with depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, or overwhelmingly stressful life situations. Allow me to help gently guide you back to a sense of empowerment and together we can work on shifting your focus toward the personal strengths that give you energy. I am active in giving support and feedback and I will compassionately challenge beliefs and actions that no longer work for you. I believe you can change the way you think about painful experiences; seeing them instead, as transformative opportunities.

Sometimes we feel stuck; we may struggle with feelings or behaviors that make us feel isolated, distressed, confused, or lost. Trying to figure out who we are, coping with anxiety, self-criticism, loneliness, shame, depression/despair, healing from trauma, or improving our relationship with ourselves or others- know that there really are genuine ways to heal. We need to feel safe, be seen and heard: to be validated, understood and reassured for change to happen. So together, you and I will create a safe space for you to explore and understand what’s been keeping you where you are, so you can finally get to where you want to be.

Hi, and welcome. Making the decision to look for a therapist can feel hopeful and vulnerable. Whether you're my new client or someone else's, I encourage you to follow the part of you that says now's the time. There are many reasons people decide to try therapy. Perhaps you're aware of a pattern of stops and starts; a feeling of being stuck. Maybe you have patterns of reactivity that get easily triggered. You may be experiencing deep grief, or trauma. There may be big changes and decisions to make. You could be overwhelmed, anxious, and/or depressed. Often there's an overarching feeling that your life is not working.

Life is an ongoing journey of growth and learning. It involves ups and downs, and ruptures do happen. Do we know how to heal and repair those ruptures? Whether processing grief or trauma, or wondering if intimacy and trust can ever happen, or wondering why we stay stuck in unhealthy patterns that just aren't working, I will help you uncover what it is you really want for yourself and then support you in committing to a path forward. I also welcome the challenge of helping partners listen and feel heard as separate individuals, so that they can collaborate on a shared vision that works for all involved. You deserve more joy!

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists
How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?
Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
