I have specialized training in The Nurtured Heart Approach, Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction for Teens & Adults, Mastery of Anxiety & Panic for Adolescents, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, & LGBTQ-Affirmative Therapy.
We are all searching for something and we are all on a journey. Some of us are trying to make our way toward a more complete and genuine sense of self and identity. Many of us struggle to utilize positive coping to deal with previous challenges and future obstacles. Others of us are young, experiencing intense emotions, and do not know how to handle them. Some of us are parents who genuinely want to be more calm and peaceful around our kids. And there are also many of us who are facing big life changes, feeling unprepared for what we will find on the road ahead. All of us need an experienced and supportive guide along the way.

Clients have reported that work in mindfulness, staying in the present moment, has been very useful to lessen anxiety and depression and improve interactions with others.
Life changing events, a traumatic past, interpersonal conflicts, ongoing feelings, such as anxiety, grief, depression and guilt all motivate people to seek therapy. Experience, compassion, respect, honesty, deep listening ; and when appropriate, humor, are traits I bring to the therapeutic relationship. I support my clients to explore ways to express and manage challenging feelings, people or circumstances. Finding safety with curiosity and compassion and validation for the self, we work toward individual and relationship growth.

Additionally, as I continue to hone my own mindfulness practices, I feel deeply honored by and committed to the chance to help others grow these life-enhancing skills.
I enjoy working with individuals who are eager to find new ways to meet challenges more effectively, particularly life transitions, healing from trauma, and recovery from anxiety, insomnia, and stress. Treatment is often short-term, focused on a few central goals, and aimed at increasing both individual well-being and interpersonal effectiveness. Often the work involves cultivation of mindful awareness, compassion, non-judgment, and kindness. In a collaborative, respective process, we learn when change-oriented skill-building is needed and when acceptance-oriented skill-building is called for to enhance the client's well-being.

I use a holistic approach incorporating talk therapy, CBT, EMDR, mindfulness, expressive therapies and mind-body-spirit connection in my sessions.
Welcome! I’m a therapist with a deep commitment to supporting women on their journey through motherhood and beyond. My specialization lies in helping mothers heal their younger selves—their inner child—so they can parent with authenticity and centeredness, rather than feeling triggered by past experiences. In addition to my work with mothers, I also bring extensive experience in supporting teens who are facing the challenges of anxiety, depression, school-related stress, and peer pressure. I provide a safe space where teens can explore their feelings, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
