Sometimes having compassion for ourselves is much harder than extending compassion to others. It’s difficult when we are dealing with thoughts that convince us we are broken or stuck, or when we are facing issues that seem larger than us, issues that appear beyond what our personal power can handle. Along with these thoughts of uncertainty come feelings such as anxiety, sadness, shame, and grief, all of which we struggle to avoid. This can make living a valued existence appear difficult or impossible. Yet it is. You don’t need to go it alone. I can see that power within you, even if you are unable to see this in yourself.

"The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination" - Carl Rogers. As a therapist, I believe in helping clients find (or rediscover) their direction in living the life that best suits them. I also believe that one of the most important factors in therapy is the goodness of "fit" between therapist and client. Through the therapeutic process, I work towards helping clients learn insights about their life, which in turn help them to make better choices and find more overall satisfaction in their life.

I believe we all have struggles to overcome throughout our lifetimes. If you are finding yourself in a challenging spot, whether that may include life transitions, loss, or emotional or physical difficulties, you may feel stuck. My goal is to help those with whom I work harness their inner strength and resources while learning new skills to get through whatever life may throw their way. As Thich Nhat Hanh, the Zen Buddhist spiritual leader, has said, "No mud, no lotus." I believe we can grow and blossom with the right support, no matter how dark things may seem.

Founder of TriHealing Counseling Group. Like many "first-generationers", I experienced struggles with cultural and generational differences, the over-critical parent(s), the "never good enough" mentality, and a sense of emotional distance within myself and at times, within my relationship with my family. Through my own journey, I learned to challenge cultural norms, embracing my biculturalism and making decisions on how I wanted to experience the world as an independent Vietnamese-American woman. I often travel between San Jose and Chicago so I provide a hybrid of in-person and virtual therapy sessions.

Rachel's passion is to meet each client where they are in their life struggle, self, relationships, work, guide them through the process of self-actualization to achieve independence so that they can return to their full functioning. Rachel uses a tailored therapeutic approach and utilizes an evidence-based approach (CBT, DBT, ACT) and addresses specific problem areas - cognitive distortion, distress tolerance, acceptance, self-compassion, and behaviors that hinder people from moving forward in their lives, thus achieving positive and fulfilling outcomes, and ultimately improve functioning and imbalance.

The pandemic has left many of us feeling confused, angry, and anxious, as we grapple with processing the profound changes happening around us. Balancing work and life, self-esteem and purpose, socialization and isolation, family and relationship issues, transitions and adjustments, and loss and grief are just a few of the challenges we may face. I believe that how we handle stress and conflict today is influenced by our past relationships and experiences. Generational patterns and cultural factors shape our movements, speech, behavior, and responses in the world

Our human experience can be incredibly painful; we all have times of stress, sadness, struggle, and disconnection. How we manage what we do, where we focus, and how we are within ourselves can be pivotal to our healing and our ability to create a life that feels rich and meaningful. I use a connected, relational approach to explore the past and present to help clients develop new skills to open to emotions, turn the volume down on unhelpful thoughts and patterns, and to define and do what really matters. Please know you do not have to figure things out alone.

If you or your child is struggling with depression, social relationships or having trouble coping with other difficulties life has thrown at you it is time to ask for help. You can get comfort and learn the skills to cope with anxiety, grief, social fears etc. Talking to a therapist can be the first step towards a more joyful and satisfying life. I work with children, teens, and adults, couples, and families. Child therapy sessions involve play therapy and the use of creative art materials. Sometimes just having someone to listen can make all the difference.

I have a fully stocked playroom with age-appropriate toys for children 3 to 13.
Are you struggling with your child? Are their behavior issues becoming worse after a life event, such as separation, divorce or loss? Are you worried about your child's health and future ability to have a successful life? Parents, you have support! I provide both individual play therapy and filial (parent- child) play therapy. I also offer parent coaching so that you can 'keep your cool' during behavioral outbursts and determine a better path forward. I invite you to contact me and we can talk through what is happening now, work together on your current situation and develop a plan for longer term improvement. Life can be better!

I see children, adolescents, and adults in my practice and am able to offer individual, couples, and family counseling.
Are you ready to make positive and lasting changes? You are definitely more than just your problems, but sometimes our problems get so big they are all we can see. When you are in my office you are seen and treated as a whole person with both strengths and struggles. I believe that therapy works best when it happens in the safety of a trusting, supportive, and collaborative relationship. My style can be best described as flexible as my interventions are based on the unique needs of my clients.
