I seek to support others by use of empathy, personal connection, and a judgment free relationship that we will build during our work together.
Accepting the responsibility to change is a difficult task but once you take the initiative, it is highly rewarding. Sometimes we need to take a step back to reflect on a new way to approach situations when "our way" seems to be getting in our way. These are common responses to trauma, depression, and many other conditions that we can't always think our way out of, despite our best efforts.

I work with a variety of clients who all have one thing in common; the need to make sense of and overcome longstanding or deeply entrenched relationship or personal challenges. People like you, who grow tired of asking "When does life get better, and when do things change?" My answer may surprise you...it doesn't, and they don't. But that's our reason for hope; we don't have to rely on fuzzy concepts like "life" and "things", when we can engage in a powerful therapeutic process of authentic connection, restoration of hope, psychoeducation, evidence-based treatments, and helping you balance radical acceptance with skillful change.

Do you feel stuck and disconnected to yourself and within your relationships? Do you repeat relationship patterns over and over again? Do you use self-sabotaging coping mechanisms to get by? Maybe you feel shame, self-doubt, and dissatisfaction in your life. Perhaps you look to others to feel and be okay, unsure of your ability to make wise decisions. What would it be like to trust yourself completely to know what you need and to be able thrive? It is possible to feel differently in the relationship with yourself and others. You can gain insight into your patterns, learn to offer yourself compassion, and feel safe inside your body.

People who struggle with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, and many other emotionally painful conditions just wish they had someone to talk to. Multiple traumas often occur over time, often within an atmosphere of attachment disordered relationships, neglect, and/or abandonment. You may have experienced child abuse, sexual abuse, grief, and loss. You may have grown up with family addiction/ partner addiction. At this point in your life you want answers to why you end up in the same relationships, and you need assurance things can change.

For couples, I work within the Gottman Method framework to prioritize connection and communication in marriages adjusting to the ever-changing demands of planning a family, pregnancy, or parenting.
Mamas – are you overwhelmed? As a therapist, I’m passionate about serving YOU, whether you are hopeful, expectant, grieving, newly parenting, or seasoned. I am trained in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International, and I am passionate about serving clients through the unacknowledged overwhelm of parenting in this modern age. The de-prioritization of maternal mental health in our culture impacts all facets of life, and often creates in us guilt, self-criticism, isolation, and exhaustion. Our work together can expand the ability to manage these struggles, as well as grow capacity for insight and self-compassion.

The therapeutic relationship we build is the most critical element in our work together.
Therapy, while helpful, can be complicated by systemic and environmental concerns. As a Queer and neurodivergent Filipino immigrant, I honor the struggles young adults, adults, and older adults face living in our rapidly-changing society, specializing in supporting them through life transitions, relationships, and emotional concerns to build their lives through a trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, and affirming framework.

I do, however, have the same goal for each one of my clients and that is to help you and your partner become the best version of yourselves.
I specialize in communication techniques to help partners de-escalate and resolve conflict while feeling heard and seen by each other. My goal is to help couples build and maintain their connection to one another. Frequently, partners may misunderstand the message that their partner is communicating to them and I am able to translate your partner's words so that they hear the message as it's intended.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
