I have advanced training in a variety of modalities such as Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness and Compassion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
There are many things that draw us to therapy. Some arrive struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or career uncertainty. Others have difficulty managing  the roller coaster of emotions inherent in the journey of becoming a parent, while some experience a more general or vague sense of distress. Whatever your goals and challenges, I welcome the opportunity to see whether I may be a good fit for your journey.

I use cognitive behavioral techniques and evidence based practices to help clients achieve their goals of working through depression, managing anxiety, replenishing caregiver-burnt out and coping with life stress. I integrate interpersonal, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral therapy modalities to the psychotherapy I offer.
It’s my belief that each person possesses unique strengths, qualities and all the internal resources they need to overcome challenges they face in life. Unfortunately, sometimes along the way, we lose connection with what those strengths and resources are and my goal as a therapist is to help you discover and utilize those strengths to develop natural capacity to live a deeper, happier and more fulfilling life. I create a safe and nurturing environment for you, free from judgment and harmful messages, where you can explore yourself and find your way back to a sense of wholeness.

The change process varies, based on every individual, as does our treatment. I use Psychodynamic techniques (how we’ve been raised to interact with the world and people around us, and which parts of that experience still help us and which parts do not), Behavioral techniques (finding new ways in our lives to incentivize us to move us in more positive directions), Relational approaches (helping us re-define who we want to be with the people in our lives most important to us), and Systems theory (understanding how our race, gender, culture and background have impacted our journey and will play a role moving forward as well).

I offer a strength based, psychodynamic, and multicultural approach aimed at building self-efficacy and resiliency.
Self-discovery is a unique journey that we all take. Our experiences, intersectional identities and environments are constantly shaping who we are. This can be an exciting and challenging time in which we tend to engage in a reflective process as various questions arise. “Will I fit in here?” “Who is there to turn to for guidance?” “What does this experience mean for me?” Individual, couple and family therapy can be an integral part of working through challenges, all of which I fully embrace on the therapeutic journey.

Therapy means many different things to different people. For some it is a journey of growth, self-awareness, and healing. For others it is necessary for them to survive. For some it is something they are mandated to do, and for many it is something they really want to do. No matter where you fall on this spectrum, I am here to support you through your process. Therapy is about where you are, where you want to go, what you want to explore, and joining you on your experience. I am here to listen, to guide you, focus you, support you and push you when needed.

"The deep learning that results in transformation must include the healing of hearts and souls. When spirit is thirsty, it is love, compassion, and truth that quench and satisfy." ~ audrey lorde ~ When we can be compassionate to our growth areas and be grounded in owning our talents and gifts, it may be easier to navigate our challenges and be open to opportunities. When we experience challenges we may need support to work through them. We can use these challenges as opportunities to renew and transform ourselves to have a better relationship with ourselves and others.

The intersections of our different identities and different selves can pull us in seemingly opposite directions and cause conflict within ourselves and in the way we relate to others. This might look like anxiety, depression, perfectionism, overly high expectations of self or others, negative perception of yourself, people-pleasing behaviors, resentment, anger, irritability, hopelessness, frustration, or a sense of not belonging.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
