In my therapy, I use cognitive behavioral therapy, and aspects of play therapy, and I enjoy parenting interventions—I am informed in the evidenced-based parenting model generation PMTO.
Hi, I hope your browsing or search for a therapist is going well. I know it can be a lot of pressure to find and choose a therapist based on a picture and bio on a website. If you feel like we would be a good match I would be excited to work with you and if not, I wish you wellness. I am an LCSW and have been practicing therapy for 5 years. I am currently seeking my Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies in the Couple and Family Therapy track.

I provide individual and family counseling for children and teenagers with mental and behavioral issues.
*Virtual Sessions Available* Does your kid or teenager often say NO, I DON’T CARE, or YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. You see them struggling with anxiety and depression, or risky behaviors such as using drugs, and don’t know what to do. You might also have gifted children or teenagers who are struggling with perfectionism-obsession-procrastination (POP). Are you high functioning and having a stable job but yet have symptoms, feelings, and behaviors that are difficult to explain in the context of your life experiences? Are you often in a relational pattern where you do things out of fear, obligation, and guilt (FOG)?

I have extensive experience in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Somatic Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Hello and welcome! I understand how overwhelming life can feel at times. Challenges that arise related to adolescence, relationships, employment, parenthood, and partnership can contribute to feelings of anxiety, isolation, shame, self-doubt, and depression. As painful as these feelings and symptoms are, they present us with unique and powerful opportunities to grow beyond our suffering. My own life experience and work in therapy is what fuels my passion to help others grow and heal. I will meet you wherever you are at and journey with you to meet the goals you set for yourself.

I utilize evidence-based therapy strategies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
We all have the natural ability to heal and grow to our full potential.  In children and adolescents this ability is enormously powerful but can be disrupted by stress and obstacles, both internal and external.  You are probably seeking therapy for yourself or your child, to find a way to overcome these obstacles and move forward with healing and growth. For 20 years, I have helped children, adolescents and their families find the skills they need for healthy emotional development.

I have spent more than two decades providing assessments, consultation and therapy for young children and their families around issues of behavior, anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities and trauma.
You are so worried about your child. She cries everytime you drop her off at preschool and she is so shy at birthday parties that she won't leave your side. You thought she would outgrow this, but instead she seems to be more and more afraid of things. She is happy at home, but she still follows you from room to room. You just want her to relax and enjoy her childhood. You remember when your child first started school, how excited you were! You thought she would soon warm up and make friends. You want to be able to pick your child up from school and hear from the teacher that she was just fine once you left. You want to hear about what your child learned, and that your child played well with friends.

To provide this space, I use a strength-based approach combined with Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy, which identifies the positive resources and abilities that we each have to begin changing dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and cognitions through a goal-oriented, systematic procedure.
I work with children, adolescents, adults and families that are facing life's challenges and stressors. Often in these difficult situations we need a safe and non-judgemental environment to identify our innate strengths that can be applied to solutions.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
