This relational therapy process allows us, together, to learn how your develomental experiences inform your current strengths and vulnerabilities.
A person coming to me may be feeling despondent, depressed, over-anxious & needs a most personal kind of support. He/she may struggle with a life-circumstance change, loneliness, un-remitting sorrow or grief, or confusions of how to manage a change in life-circumstance. People seek me out for help with long-standing emotional problems that have in some way spoiled relationships, or progress in their careers. He/she needs experienced help in learning how to be a more confident and resourceful parent or partner in a relationship or marriage.

I pay close attention to how my clients unknowingly find themselves attracted to the same type of safe, but ultimately unsatisfying people and relational position, and provide a deeper understanding of the "purpose" this serves.
Of special interest to me are those individuals who have been raised to believe that they are not special, and experience the suffering resulting from focusing more on the needs and feelings of others than their own. I assist my clients in developing their personal boundaries and limitations required to establish their own equal "space" within relationships, and to achieve the necessary freedom from re-enacting their familial role and associated feelings with that role.

Marital Therapy: Contemporary Relational Theories, Imago Relationship Therapy, Various Communication Models.
The most fascinating and important part of my job as a therapist is how to have a really good conversation. It may sound too simple, but it cuts to the heart of what to expect from therapy. Through good conversation, you experience connection and understanding. When we are understood, difficult feelings change with resulting freedoms to engage life. Trained both as a Marriage and Family therapist and a psychoanalyst, I work with complex relationship issues, divorce and blended families, depression, anxiety, addictions, men's issues, and sexual trauma recovery, and integration of psychology and faith/spirituality.

I use attachment-focused EMDR, Buddhist philosophy, EFT, and IFS to inform my relational approach.
Years ago, on my 30th birthday, I walked home from my party alone. I had a great night with friends, flirted with a girl at the bar, but I had a feeling, a gnawing sensation, that there was something better out there. I had a vague feeling that what I needed was a loving partnership, and it was up to me to prioritize finding it. Eventually I found my way to therapy, and with a nurturing but challenging therapist, I began to realize how I defended myself from the intimacy I wanted. It was the most humbling and most rewarding thing I've ever done.

My style is psychodynamic, relational, and somatically rooted using both the body and brain to generate healing.
Welcome, I'm glad you're here. I specialize in working with anxiety, relationship issues, and couples. If you're here because you feel anxious, I'd like to name that there's plenty to be anxious about in the modern world! I focus on helping you develop skills to regulate when anxiety feels overwhelming, and on parsing out what's in or out of our control. If you're in a relationship, maybe you're tired of getting stuck in what feels like the same fight again and again. Using EFT, I love helping couples understand each other on a deeper level, and break out of feeling stuck.

I utilize psychodynamic, relational, and attachment-based as well as elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness practices.
For many of us, the challenges we face in our daily lives can be overwhelming, no matter what form they take. We find ourselves repeating the same unhealthy patterns, yet struggle to understand why. After a while we begin to lose trust in our judgement and grow distant from our intuition, finding it difficult to identify our own guiding voice. So we learn to cope through any means possible, which often emulate ways we have learned to protect ourselves. We find ways to run from the pain and our internal shame through substance use, unhealthy relationships, and other self-destructive behaviors.

Living in a world as beautiful and broken as ours often involves unexpected twists and turns. I help clients of all ages manage anxiety and stress, navigate life transitions, employ healthy boundaries, and effectively communicate their needs. Some of my clients feel stuck in the stuff of life. Others are experiencing significant professional, academic, or relational stress. Many come seeking greater understanding of their stories and attachment patterns. What they all hold in common is that they are simply, and profoundly, human.

Something feels off. You’re a pro at people pleasing. At sensing what others want without even meaning to be so good at it. But you have wants, desires, goals, boundaries, too! It hurts to invisible-ize yourself. Hiding who you are and what you really need is isolating. They say to trust your gut but why does it end up feeling like your gut's the defective one? (Hint: It isn't. I repeat: it is not defective!)
