What doesn't hurt you makes you stronger.....but don't show your emotions!" Hi, I am David Vest, LMFT103919, in California and I specialize in trauma-informed. I have been practicing since 2010 and also work with anxiety, depression, cognitive disorders, substance use, and couples. I am most successful with adults and have currently limited practice with those over 18. I focus on the strengths and perspectives that people bring with them. Hello, I'm Alan Lawrence, licensed clinical social worker (LCS12658). I hold three master's degrees in psychology, social work and gerontology. We age from birth with many challenges and changes as we grow older. A burden shared is a burden lifted. Accomplish your goals and move forward. Learning lessons from the past and understanding your thinking process and internal dialogue (cognitive-behavioral) will empower you with new insights and direction. Let's get started. I customize therapy sessions to the individual's needs. I can be eclectic but do emphasize cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to treatment.

In an individual session I value the importance of mental health and am committed to fostering growth in the lives I am a part of. My therapy sessions are conducted over the phone! It is so easy to get stuck in our past or lost in the future and we forget to be mindful of what is going on in the present. Our past can shape who we are and how we perceive our lives today and this can easily get us caught up in a vicious cycle of various emotional and mental struggles. The importance of rebuilding a relationship with ourselves is a critical component in life and can provide a different outlook to mood, behavioral and personality disorders. Let us never underestimate the power that we hold within ourselves!

I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over ten years. I have been on a life journey that will continue forever because we never stop creating a greater, more powerful self. Why would we do that? It feels encapsulating to be struck in a box of epic proportions feeling there is no door opening to the best of you! We live in a world that lives in denial of its truths. The truth helps you begin to walk on the journey of healing.

You are a woman who is feeling anxious, depressed, misunderstood, rejected, have low self-worth, prioritize others over yourself, have always felt like a burden, and have difficulty connecting and communicating with others. Do you want to understand the impact that your dysfunctional family, alcoholic, absent, or emotionally immature parents have had on you and your relationships? Are you ready to confront these feelings, learn to prioritize yourself, thoroughly process and understand the dysfunction and the impact these adverse experiences had on you, develop stronger relationships with others, and ultimately feel whole again?

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
