My primary philosophy uses a humanistic, embodied approach to somatic psychology. Using developmental based theories, I focus on healing from the inside out. Increasing positive self-awareness motivates the individual to investigate soulful changes that produce more joy and satisfaction in their everyday lives. I continue to see adults, for both assessment and treatment of anxiety, depression, and other life cycle challenges.

Asking for support for yourself or your child is a courageous step. Without warning you may find yourself dealing with loss of a relationship, changing schools or jobs, or just feeling like life has lost its spark. Perhaps parenting, which used to be so easy, does not seem to be working. Or carrying so much anxiety & stress, day-in & day-out has become too heavy. Life has turned upside down, magnifying everything to the point that it's just overwhelming. I get it, & I can help you pave a path to reclaim your well-being. Together, we can develop the skills needed to motivate you or your child & enhance your individual strengths.

I believe in whole mind and body healing, and offer nervous system regulation, ritual, and somatic healing.
Do you often feel anxious, sad, or resentful in relationships? Perhaps you believe you can’t have the relationships you want or find yourself asking “why does this keep happening to me?” You might have a pattern of choosing partners who are emotionally unavailable. You know something feels off, but you’re not exactly sure why or what to do about it. If any of these signs are familiar, it’s okay. It’s not your fault and you’re not broken. I work with women to resolve old trauma wounds and learn new ways of relating with themselves and others. My approach is both clinical and casual and my medicine is warm, funny and nurturing.

This somatic approach supports a deep level of healing that shifts procedural habits in a unified way.
The body carries the legacy of trauma and attachment dynamics in habits of movement, posture and nervous system regulation that can keep us stuck in the past. Therapeutic engagement doesn't have to be dysregulating and overwhelming. You shouldn't leave a therapy session feeling worse than you did when you showed up. Unfortunately, traditional talk therapies can inadvertently trigger your nervous system into survival mode. If we aren't tracking and recognizing what is happening underneath the words, therapy can feel excruciating, especially if there is a history of trauma at any stage of development.

I use a combination of ACT(Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) which is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Experiential (helps to tune into your body when you are numb/cut-off/or too much in your thoughts), Psychodynamic Experiential, Heart Rate Variance(HRV) biofeedback training, and Trauma Informed Mindfulness based skills.
I can help you discover and strengthen healthy boundaries, guide you to take action on your personal values and life goals, and teach you how to regain your emotional balance when life is working your last nerve. Be kinder to yourself, have greater patience with loved ones, your family of choice, friends and co-workers, and decrease the overwhelming sense of loneliness that you may have felt during this crummy pandemic.

We're all in process of becoming, transitioning from who we’ve been into who we truly wish to be in this world. Various avenues of creativity can open different paths of insightfulness, as each of us ultimately holds the internal wisdom we require to change and transform while also understanding that everyone requires support, empathy and at times someone to help hold themselves accountable. I work from a trauma informed perspective and integrate a variety of approaches within sessions including but not limited to somatic awareness, mindfulness, brain spotting and creative catharsis.

I provide a safe, compassionate and collaborative healing space combining different styles of psychotherapy such as somatic (body-based), mindfulness, experiential, play therapy, and solution-oriented approaches.
Are you feeling distracted or overwhelmed? Perhaps you are lacking motivation and seeking clarity to connect with your passions and purpose in life, or desire more fulfilling, harmonious relationships. Maybe you’re tired of people saying you’re “too much” or “not enough” leaving you feeling not good enough or unworthy. You are not alone. Releasing old fears, anxiety, shame, guilt, and negative thoughts doesn’t have to be a painful, difficult process (deep breath!). It can be incredibly freeing, creating space and connection to a part of yourself you never knew was there.

My unique counseling style is a fusion of many healing modalities studied over 4 decades, with a focus on somatic therapy, parts work & EMDR.
Are you feeling called to open your heart and mind to live in a way that is meaningful and authentic? Would you like to free yourself of well-worn limitations from limiting beliefs, shame, or trauma? We are in the midst of radical, collective transformation and the time is ripe for utilizing that energy to make changes in our lives. Change can shake free some of our deepest fears and most dysfunctional patterns, but it also provides opportunities for new and beautiful growth. When we feel supported, we are better able to navigate change. And when we change as individuals, we help shift the collective consciousness.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
