I'm trained in and offer mindfulness practices, somatic interventions, CBT, expressive arts, as well as have a deep understanding of family systems and attachment styles so you will be able to understand your (or your child's) adaptive strategies and make the changes in the present to live your highest potential.
I’m certified in Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for adults from Integrative Psychiatry Institute. I have also throughly enjoyed working with children, teens, & families for 19+ yrs. I listen with the intent of thoroughly understanding your concerns, unhealthy patterns, what is keeping you stuck, as well as your vision for what you want more of in life. I get that as a parent, it’s hard to watch your child struggle with emotional dysregulation & show signs of low self-esteem. We’ll work collaboratively to come up with more interventions & behavioral plans to help your child develop and deepen their skills.

I also specialize in working with parents exploring parenthood for the first time, by guiding them through the difficult feelings that arise as their life transitions from an individualist outlook on life to one that integrates an emotional balance in parenthood, relationships with your partner/ family and career.
As a bilingual, first generation Mexican American therapist and Bay Area native, I am passionate about promoting exploration and connection to self identity, healthy relationships, and a growth mindset in times of transition. I work with children and families, particularly I specialize in providing a supportive and nonjudgmental space for teens struggling with the chaos of adolescence and becoming a young adult in this generation. I am here to process these anxious feelings and help teens develop the skills to better recognize, understand, and tolerate their feelings, so they can learn to “grow through what they go through”.

Please note: I am no longer accepting Anthem Blue Cross Insurance. When we are faced with a crisis, transition, or other stressful life situation we want to be comforted, supported, and given direction; in other words, we want to feel better. While we can often receive useful help from friends and family it often isn't sufficient to resolve the issue or prevent it from reoccurring. Old habits and patterns tend to be stubborn but change is possible. In my view, real and lasting growth begins with the willingness to try new approaches to old problems.

I work with people who feel that emotional neglect, dysfunctional family relationships and fear of change take away meaning in their life.
The issues on spirituality, mental health and psychology are part of my practice and interests. The frames I use are Psychodynamic and Tibetan Buddhism. How to overcome psychological conditioning and personal narratives that are too extreme and unrealistic. Many times some people find themselves in situations that aggravate their emotional pain, no way out but rather than look inside of themselves look out there, hoping that their live will change.

You’re drowning. The waves of life are crashing down hard and they just keep coming. You thought things would be different by now. That you’d be happy, confident, and content with life, but instead you’re struggling. Struggling to find motivation to face the day, to have time and energy to put into your relationships and family, and feeling like nothing you do is ever good enough.

The Center for Rising Minds was founded by Niroshika De Silva, PsyD, with the philosophy that the treatment for children, adults, and families should include a holistic approach, as no individual is exactly the same. We believe that treatment is most effective when providers from other disciplines collaborate in order to meet the needs of the whole individual. At Center for Rising Minds, we provide services across the lifespan, recognizing that children and adults can experience similar challenges that would benefit from psychotherapy, occupational therapy, or both.

I primarily use Mindfulness and Brainspotting as a modality for healing, though I am trained in EMDR, family systems, TF-CBT, DBT, and CBT.
My approach to therapy focuses on building the therapeutic relationship and supporting each client with an individualized treatment plan to support their needs. I am a trauma-focused therapist and believe presenting problems that bring people to therapy are rooted in earlier experiences. Brainspotting is a gentle yet effective neurobiological approach to treat symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic disorder, PTSD, attachment wounds, etc.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
