I have expertise in treating a wide range of eating disorders including binge-eating, anorexia, bulimia, body image concerns, dia bulimia, pica, rumination, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), purging disorders, orthorexia, excessive exercise, and more.
Navigating personal struggles often leaves us feeling alone, anxious, and disconnected. This experience can become even more intense when dealing with issues such as eating disorders, trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, bipolar disorder, and co-occurring conditions. I specialize in helping individuals navigate these challenges. Collaborating with psychiatrists, doctors, and dietitians, we form a holistic support team, going beyond traditional methods for comprehensive healing. We aim to equip you with tools for emotional, physical, and mental wellness, enabling lasting growth and resilience.

I have experience working with many others such as: ADHD, depression, eating disorders, phobias and major life changes.
Current openings for new clients! Are you experiencing distressing thoughts that scare you? Do you feel compelled to complete certain tasks (even mentally) due to your thoughts? Do others often comment that you are anxious or always on edge? Or perhaps you're struggling with peer or family relationships, major life changes and use unhealthy means of coping with stress? If you or your teen have answered yes to any of these questions, I may be able to help. As a client-centered therapist, I believe that healing begins with a strong therapeutic relationship; one that is genuine and compassionate.

Something’s changed. That change can be any number of things - recent baby, newly out of or into middle school/high school, change in family dynamics, or others. But something has changed and it doesn’t feel right. You used to feel like you had it together - like you were writing your own story and happy with where it was going. But lately, it doesn’t feel that way. Lately, it feels like there’s an editor changing things in your story and it’s not working out! You feel lost, maybe depressed, anxious or angry, or maybe you’re not sure what you feel, just that something’s not right.

Life is filled with challenges that affect each of us in different ways. I believe that how we approach and overcome those challenges helps shape us and allow us to experience life to the fullest. I began my psychotherapy practice out of a desire to use my life experience, education, and passion to help serve others in their healing journey. Through my clinical experience, I discovered that building a supportive relationship through therapy creates a safe place to explore life struggles, understand difficult issues, learn new skills, enrich relationships and work through situations to lead a more authentic life.

I am passionate about therapy that produces lasting, inner healing! I use a combination of several psychological theories, depending on what will best meet my client's needs, including ImTT and EMDR, to help clients experience healing and change in the places where their pain originated. This not only creates symptom reduction and/or extinction but also produces an outcome of inner peace, joy and freedom, putting an end to trying harder, pretending or "white-knuckling" through. I love this work and look forward to connecting with you in your journey toward emotional wholeness!

Happiness in life is dependent upon relationships - the relationship with yourself, your partner, your children - and the other significant, albeit difficult, people in your life. The bulk of my practice has focused on this very specialized area of interacting with other people. Whether doing discernment counseling with a couple contemplating divorce, working with couples to discuss and workout seemingly intractable issues----as well as mediation services for divorcing couples, relationships are the foundation of contentment and I have experienced a great deal of success with clients in this area.

I believe in human resiliency. I have witnessed profound healing, strength and transformation occur in people's lives through the process of psychotherapy. I support individuals by expanding their awareness, building compassionate self-acceptance, and creating aligned action to live their preferred lives. Within the context of a therapeutic relationship, awareness, learning and healing can occur. Feeling stuck, insecure, depressed or anxious? Stuck in a cycle of self-sabotage or unhealthy coping skills? Therapy can uncover your blind spots and help you develop emotional intelligence to face life's challenges with new perspectives.

Reaching out for help is a courageous milestone. Who you choose to invite into your journey is a very important decision. That’s why I believe the strength of the therapeutic relationship is essential for transformation, empowerment, and healing to take place. I utilize my empathetic and relational oriented style to form authentic alliances during this life changing work. I use approaches from evidence-based theories including Psychodynamic, CBT and Feminist Theory. Our environments influence us heavily which is why I observe each human experience uniquely through the lenses of societal and cultural realities.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
