In addition, medication management is a service I provide for those who have been prescribed psychotropic medication for depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and psychotic spectrum disorders.
My clients come from many walks of life but have one thing in common - they would like to improve their overall quality of life. Perhaps the wounds from their past or stressors from their present are adversely impacting their lives. My goal is to work collaboratively with my clients to improve their current level of functioning. My practice includes working with adults, college students, adolescents, couples, and families. I also co-lead groups with my husband who is also a psychotherapist, and I work with master's level and doctorate interns who are completing their therapy/supervison hours for licensing.

Out of a place of struggle or hopelessness, much can be discovered and learned. Having a witness to your life who listens without judgment can help remove barriers, so you are in a more hopeful place. There will be ups and downs through the therapeutic journey, and I am here to support you, as you develop awareness and understanding in order to make healthy choices. I will listen to your stories, perhaps offer a different perspective, practice coping skills, and help you discover how you can participate in your hopes to make them happen.

You're entirely powerless. You've begun isolating from your family. The shame is so deep that you're afraid to look them in the eye. They'll surely see the heavy secret you've been carrying. You've tried to be "good enough" for him, but the cycle of emotional abuse and manipulation is never-ending. You've begun to question your sanity. You made excuses for their behavior, his "moods". You've changed yourself to appease him and lost yourself in the process. You no longer recognize the woman in the mirror with her sad and tired eyes. You've disconnected from you friends and the things you once loved. You've lost who you are.

:: CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS :: I believe that it takes courage to meet with a therapist, and I am sensitive to the journeys that lead people to my office. I utilize a friendly, collaborative approach in developing relationships with my clients. I feel that the most important change agent in the treatment process is the relationship between client and therapist. I strive to help my clients feel comfortable and safe, and help empower them to build skills to help manage stressors and overcome obstacles. I use a strengths-based approach to help my clients move from where they are to where they want to be.

It has been a while since you felt stuck, terrified, hopeless, or worthless. Yet, you have always been smiling to pretend you are okay. Or you are very used to distancing yourself because “nobody cares about me”. Life can be very challenging when you can hardly recognize the person next to you, more importantly, when you can’t even recognize yourself. Whether it has been years over the same issues and difficulties, or there has been a sudden tragic change to your life, believe it! You are already doing the best you can at any given moment!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
