My approach to therapy focuses on building the therapeutic relationship and supporting each client with an individualized treatment plan to support their needs. Using powerful modalities like EMDR I can help you heal your trauma and dismantle self-critical shame.
The judgments come from all sides – your family, peers, your community. For such a long time, you’ve heard their toxic words: “You’re not good enough.” “You’re broken.” “You’re worthless.” And the worst part is, you've started to believe it yourself. The external chorus of criticism has become indistinguishable from your own inner voice. You've carried the weight of these unfair judgments admirably – constantly pushing forward and doing what you need to survive. But you can feel yourself slowly crumbling under the pressure. You can’t go on like this. But your shame has become so familiar that you’re unsure how to live without it.

As an inclusive, trauma-focused therapist, trained in EMDR and DBT, I provide culturally affirming therapy to all adults.
Do you wonder why you have a big reaction to the small things in life? Seeking therapy, whether for the first time or the tenth time, takes courage and strength. I have heard from clients that even with cognitive insight they have remained stuck in distressing feelings/situations. I strongly believe that living coping skill to coping skill is not a viable long-term solution. Through personal experience, I have ascertained that knowledge of the root cause to a reaction or behavior is paramount to healing. I will not see you as a compilation of symptoms or a diagnosis, but rather as a person with needs that you are trying to get met.

In addition, I am experienced in energy psychology using EMDR/EFT, which are evidenced-based practices known to help reduce anxiety, depression, and trauma.
You are worthy and "enough" just as you are. Many people want to improve their life in some way, and align with their authentic self. Some key factors in getting the most out of therapy are openness, willingness, and developing curiosity while facing life's stressors. There may be tears, laughter, and times of confusion along the path to self-discovery, with each step of the way adding insight as you go. I invite people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds to explore the hidden opportunities that stress provides, and to encourage self-care and personal growth. I have flexible telehealth and office openings.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
