My psychology treatment plan is specialized to an individual's goals and needs, varying in terms of time, modality and focus (DBT, Ego-Psychology, TLDP, Object-Relations, Multicultural, and Motivational interviewing MI).
There are many reasons to seek out therapy. The ultimate purpose for considering therapy is often to resolve whatever is in the way of having a better life. As an active, empathic and experienced psychotherapist, my goal is to assist individuals in overcoming the barriers that prevent them from experiencing, the relationships in their lives in a full and rich way. I work to understand each individual's unique struggle, while respecting personal history and cultural background. Ultimately, I help individuals to see how past experiences and behavioral patterns may contribute to their current symptoms and difficulties.

I have been intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, helping clients manage difficult emotions, urges and impulses, while learning new coping skills.
Are your emotions controlling you rather than you controlling your emotions? You might be feeling stuck or maybe you're so numb that you feel like you're walking through your life with your eyes closed. When you come to therapy with me, you are more than a client; you are a self-healer. Through my mindfulness based tools, and others such as emotional regulation and distress tolerance, you'll be able to manage your emotions while creating the life you want to live with your eyes wide open. From managing your emotions to your relationships, let's create a life worth living!

I primarily use DBT, CBT, and a psychodynamic therapy approach but I believe that each client's uniqueness drives an approach guided by curiosity, meaning-making, and individual strengths.
To be 'human' is such a simple and yet such a deep and miraculous concept. Suffering is a natural part of human experience and emotional avoidance is one of the main causes of psychological problems. Avoiding negative emotions may bring you short term relief but in the long term it will end up with pain. When we accept a negative emotion, it tends to lose its destructive power. Therapy is a healing journey where the alliance between client and therapist plays an extremely important role in the process of acceptance.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
