I use multiple therapeutic modalities including EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Exposure with Response Prevention ( ERP), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Mindful Self-Compassion to help people discover values, set goals, and live with vitality.
I believe people are inherently oriented to heal and grow. My role as a psychologist is to accompany you on your personal path. I welcome people with all types of concerns. I am especially experienced in treating people struggling with trauma, eating and body image issues, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, life transitions, relationship and parenting issues.

While I have extensive experience treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other disorders, for the past 15 years I have focused on the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and over the past 2 years I have immersed myself in a relatively new approach to OCD called I-CBT (Inference Based CBT). Using I-CBT techniques I have had the privilege of helping my clients, many of whom had limited success in prior OCD treatment, finally achieve freedom from this distressing disorder. When indicated I also use Exposure and Response Prevention ( ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My style is warm, inviting, and collaborative.

I specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention ( ERP).
“The best things in life are on the other side of fear.” You or your teen struggle with anxiety, OCD, or trauma. You spend hours worrying and feeling anxious. You feel tense and you're in a ton of pain. You’ve tried all kinds of ways to get rid of the problem - relaxation, meditation, etc. - and nothing has worked. You’re confused, frustrated, and nearly hopeless. You don’t understand why this is happening, how to make it go away, or even what to do next.

Using ERP, we get you in a place where you can tolerate uncertainty, fear, and understand how your brain functions.
Obsessive thoughts won't leave you and have you worrying uncontrollably. You have fears that don't make sense to others, but you must take action or avoid people, relationships, places to keep yourself and others safe. You doubt your decision and actions all the time and it stresses you out that you can't be sure if you did the right thing. You do things that feel out of your control, repetitive, and take a lot of time. Either you struggle to function in relationships, or it takes tremendous effort to do what you need to get done. All of the time you are anxious, thinking, and exhausted.

If you are experiencing OCD, we'll use Exposure and Response Prevention ( ERP), tackling your fears together at a pace that feels right for you.
Have you suffered a recent loss or are impacted by painful experiences from your past? Do relentless "what if" thoughts plague your mind, leaving you wondering if OCD is the culprit? Perhaps you've grappled with both, feeling overwhelmed by shame or fear. Maybe you are a helping professional (therapist, doctor, nurse...) and are experiencing burnout from working in intense settings. As a specialist in trauma and OCD, I'm here to provide the support you need. My approach is rooted in collaboration, honoring your strengths and nurturing the connections already within you.

This may look like using ERP and ACT to manage anxiety or OCD, DBT to increase skills for distress or int erpersonal effectiveness, or exploring how attachment injuries are impacting you and your relationships.
At the core of our well-being are the relationships we hold. I specialize in supporting individuals with issues that impact how we relate to others and ourselves including anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-judgment, OCD, and various relationship issues. Additionally, I have expertise in helping those who want to take a non-diet approach to recovery from bulimia, binge eating disorders, and compulsive/emotional eating concerns. In general, I work well with individuals who feel stuck and are ready to move in a new direction.

Therapy is a sacred process that has the potential to heal and catalyze growth. The most important ingredient in this process is the alliance between the participants sharing the therapeutic space. This relationship serves as the foundation from which change may spring, and attendance to this relationship is integral to the way I engage in therapy. My approach honors this alliance while maintaining space to creatively develop practical treatment goals that align with your values and needs. I hope that clients leave treatment with tangible and actionable tools that they can employ outside of the session in service of their wellness.

You are here for a reason. You may have been feeling anxious for a while or feeling persistently sad; you may want to correct some of the dysfunctional patterns in your life and improve the quality of your relationships; you may feel stuck and unable to move forward in life. Perhaps you have found yourself entangled with self-blame or even self-hatred. Whatever you have gone through in the past or what you are going through right now, you do not have to continue to suffer. You have taken the first step towards change.

Many of my clients are disabled, queer, and trans. I love to support individuals and families in finding and shifting cycles that keep them stuck. This can look like a cycle of anxiety that keeps swirling and growing no matter how much you try to avoid or reassure it. Or like families that are caught in challenging cycles of communication, who are working to shift things but feel caught in old patterns. My clients are often impacted by multiple layers of social and internalized stigma. Specific issues my clients seek care for include OCD, ADHD, depression, trauma, bereavement, and identity development around disability and gender.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
