Throughout my service in various clinical settings, I have been struck by the importance of creating a safe space for those seeking mental health care and working towards personal growth. While I treat a wide range of mental health concerns, I specialize in working with those who: are navigating life transitions, including relationship and dating challenges, grief and loss, medical difficulties, or relocation; are striving to find effective ways of managing difficult emotions and communicating with others; have faced interpersonal traumas or identity-based invalidations; or are struggling to engage in meaningful ways with others.

Life throws us curves that even our best efforts can't resolve. Trauma affects each of us in different ways and forces us all to cope the best way we know how, often reaching out for coping skills that can often hurt us, and support systems are unable to help heal struggles when we need guidance most. You and I will work together to uncover core issues keeping you "stuck" and teach you to utilize mind/body connected coping strategies providing you with skills to live the life you deserve.

Hello. I'm Bradly Long, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. From personal and professional experiences, I believe in a psychodynamic approach to learning about ourselves and where we come from while also improving upon our daily functioning. We are all works in progress. From my personal therapeutic experience as a client and then as a therapist, my focus is exploring and learning where we come from. What were we taught? I'm most comfortable with clients who aren't afraid of confronting what isn't working for them and talking about the elephant in the room.

We are all deserving of being heard, valued, & living a fulfilling life. Yet, somewhere in history, in society, in our families, and within ourselves, you may have started believing something different- a narrative that doesn't recognize your worth or your whole self. As a result, you may have developed a pattern of not speaking your truth, overextending your boundaries, constantly questioning yourself, or any other behaviors that were once ways of surviving but no longer serve you. My goal is to identify such patterns with a sense of curiosity as we work toward change and acceptance in therapy.

I work with adults and teenagers who are looking to manage symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, and Trauma. I will be with you on the journey of healing to discovery, recovery, and connection to your true self. I also specialize in working with individuals experiencing life transition issues such as career/academic concerns and relationship stress. My therapeutic approach mainly focuses on helping my clients identify their strengths to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am a firm believer that our childhood experiences contribute to our beliefs, behavioral patterns, and selecting a romantic partner. Therapy is a process! To allow ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable with someone about our experiences and trauma can be daunting. As a therapist, it is my goal to help validate, create a safe environment and help understand aspects of lived experiences.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
