Hi there! My name is Sarah and I am a Christian life coach. Life coaching is a non-clinical approach to distressing life experiences that seeks to help individuals identify patterns of thinking or behaviors that are getting in the way of them living a fulfilling life. Life coaching does not diagnose any mood/behavior symptoms. My style of life coaching approaches clients' needs using time-tested practical biblical principles. It is important to know that coaching is not clinical work, and if a higher level of care is needed, clients are referred to a licensed mental health provider.

It's important to find a therapist with whom you can connect and feel safe. With empathy and compassion, my focus is to creat a safe environment so that you are able to share that which is most vulnerable and I hold the space, a positive attitude, that focuses on your ability to grow and heal. Whether you come as a family, couple, individual, my goal is to help you to get past the stuck places, learn new skills, help you connect with your feelings with more depth and help you to make the changes that will enrich your life.

I value opportunities to connect with my clients in unique and creative ways through humor, a love of animals, art, and connecting with nature. Through art, writing, and creative outlets I believe we can heal, and work towards integrating the broken parts of self. My approach to the therapeutic process is collaborative and goal-driven. I see my role in clients' lives as one that is temporary; my goal is to equip you with the tools, insights, and renewed hope that will allow you to move forward without need for my help.

You feel like you've been hijacked by what you've experienced. Sometimes your body is in panic mode- racing heart, sweaty palms, flashbacks, and hyper-vigilance. Other times you feel completely disconnected- numbing out through technology, emotionless, and exhausted. You can't seem to make sense of what you're supposed to do to feel better. You feel broken, alone, and helpless. As a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP) I have experience working with individuals just like you. I specialize in survivors of sexual trauma and medical professionals who have experienced trauma (and/or vicarious trauma).

I believe in the fundamental, basic goodness of all humans; when living from a place of depth there can be a gentleness, ease, and gratitude toward ourselves, life, and everything we do. Nature teaches us that stress and healing are cyclical. That they are an integral part of our experience. Yet sometimes we get stuck and life can feel heavy, overwhelming and dark. During these times, we might need others to support us. To guide us in finding new ways of relating to ourselves as well as these stressful and contracted states. Psychotherapy can offer that help.

Therapy offers a space to process these feelings, understand their roots, and learn to cope more effectively.

Things have been hard for people lately. You are not alone if you have been feeling stretched too thin. Relationships can be challenging; learning communication skills to express yourself authentically to your partner is what I can offer couples. Understanding your own feelings first, learning emotional language to communicate those feelings, and learning how to listen and be heard in your relationship is the basis of what I do when working with couples. For parents, I help you see your child as a whole person from birth, and assist you in becoming a confident leader, developing healthy attachments, and fostering emotional security.

All emotions have a job - to bring something to our attention, to give us information about our world, sometimes to give us the physical energy to take action. I see my role as a therapist would be to help you better understand yourself, and when it fits to teach you tools and skills so that you can be effective in your life. I can be a guide and an ally through many challenges - these include depression and anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, caregiving, life-threatening illnesses, grief and loss. Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
