I have been working in mental health for nearly 30 years. I developed a holistic psychology practice over 20 years ago to help my clients get the best results. Holistic means treating the whole person; mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of someone's life to find the root cause of symptoms. I am also a clinical nutritionist focusing on helping to educate about detox and balance brain chemistry with vitamins, minerals and amino acids and eating for optimal health. I focus on root cause of symptoms, doing progressive trauma interventions. Trauma is about times in your life in which your nervous system becomes dysregulated.

I provide a supportive therapeutic relationship and skillful psychotherapy. I can help with a range of concerns that people bring to therapy. These include improving relationships, working through difficult feelings, managing anxiety, changing troubling behaviors, strengthening a sense of identity and purpose, or improving ones ability to cope with difficult circumstances. I work with teen and adult clients; individuals, couples, and families. Along with talk therapy, when appropriate I enjoy incorporating non-verbal forms of expression such as drawing and sand tray work.

I came to Humboldt County in 2001, after completing my psychology degree in Europe and my master's degree in psychotherapy in Syracuse, New York. I have practiced psychotherapy for the last 30 years, and I am familiar with a wide range of issues, situations and diagnosis. Although, I enjoy specific theoretical and practical approaches and models of therapy like CBT, SFBT for treating anxiety, trauma impact and depression symptoms, I clinically focus on what I believe suits best the individual and the situation. I view life as a journey towards betterment of the person and reach for happiness.

The body carries the legacy of trauma and attachment dynamics in habits of movement, posture and nervous system regulation that can keep us stuck in the past. Therapeutic engagement doesn't have to be dysregulating and overwhelming. You shouldn't leave a therapy session feeling worse than you did when you showed up. Unfortunately, traditional talk therapies can inadvertently trigger your nervous system into survival mode. If we aren't tracking and recognizing what is happening underneath the words, therapy can feel excruciating, especially if there is a history of trauma at any stage of development.

We will work together to find ways to meet your needs and work toward your goals, and build from there. Our plan will evolve as we move forward in a collaborative way. This is for you, and my job is to support you.

Everything about our lives is centered in relationship; knowing how to effectively initiate and maintain supportive, enjoyable and mutually satisfying relationships will serve us throughout our lives. But this doesn't happen without many ups and downs, some of which benefit from including a supportive, objective and helpful therapist. If you are wishing to improve your thinking, your skill in dealing with stress, anxiety, depression or trauma, living in past experiences or fearing the future, I would be honored to help.

Do you feel like you are experiencing repetitive patterns in your life that are holding you back or keeping you down? Do you feel stuck in your relationship, job, or other areas of your life? Therapy can help you to work towards a better understanding of yourself and your choices and create a path for change. Making change often requires a deep look at your life experiences and an understanding of why you do what you do. We will explore how your past is affecting your present and forge a shift towards different ways of thinking and seeing the world. I see therapy as a way to truly expand your understanding of yourself.

As a therapist from a social justice background, I deeply value the experiences each person brings with them into a session. I find that it is important to look at how values and brain-functioning shape the way we see the world. Empowerment through education and use of Harm Reduction Philosophy can help people to make healthy choices and improve their functioning in their relationships and self-care. I support my clients through building resources, problem-solving, and learning to use coping tools and self-awareness. Your wellbeing is the goal; the process to get there is the work in, and outside of, a therapy session.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive experience working with individuals, families, and couples from ethnically and culturally diverse populations. The individuals I work with are overcoming various life transitions that range from mental health issues, interpersonal relationships, career and academic challenges, substance use, grief and loss, and trauma. Be fully yourself. Laugh. Cry. Be really afraid or angry—perhaps even at your therapist. Talk a lot. Sit in silence. Dive right in. Take it slow. Talk about something you’ve never talked about before. Talk about something inconsequential so what is bothering you doesn’t feel so overwhelming. All of this is welcome.

Life's challenges can sometimes seem overwhelming. You don't have to walk through it alone. Finding the courage to ask for help can be a powerful step on the path to healing. I believe that when people are listened to, understood, and accepted, they can connect to their inner wisdom, build resiliency, and cultivate a sense of well-being. My intention is to create a welcoming, supportive, respectful environment in which you can feel safe to share your truth.
