I strive to help people make sense of their lived experiences so they can enact the changes they wish to have in their lives. Beyond building awareness of one's issues, to foster growth takes action. These actions take place inside and outside of therapy through validation, emotional processing, behavioral changes, encouragement, and a willingness to be imperfect or vulnerable. I aim to help clients feel empowered by focusing on collaboration, centering their needs in treatment, and promoting agency. I employ cultural humility and a person-centered approach to my clinical work, as to never treat people as a diagnosis.
My style of therapy focuses on a biopsychosocial approach to understanding people which includes collecting information about their life holistically. That is to say people cannot be understood based on a single aspect of their identity or experience; people must be understood in the context in which they lived. I use tools from Adlerian, ACT, DBT, and CBT.
As people we will struggle to take on challenges when we are discouraged; this discouragement can take many forms but the results can be similar: stagnation, hopelessness, helplessness, and suffering. In order for people to do better they at times need to feel better about themselves first; by affording yourself the freedom to be human and imperfect.
