Have you noticed changes in your stress level or how you deal with stress in your life? You may feel like you need to hide certain parts of yourself from your friends or family to avoid conflict or fit in. Maybe it’s coming out as drinking more often or having more drinks when you do. Are you binging on food, not eating for days at time or barely eating anything when you do eat? You could be turning to, or relying on other behaviors or substances. Or you may be in recovery but other parts of your life continue to feel unmanageable, frustrating, or leaving you feeling trapped.

Waitlist for new clients
My approach is founded upon the relationship I have with each client. I create a safe, comfortable environment by providing empathy, genuineness, and a sense of humor, and work collaboratively with each client to meet their unique goals. I help clients to identify, express, and understand emotions so that they may better manage them. Therapy can also aid in understanding and changing patterns in relationships that may contribute to distress. I welcome conversations with clients about our relationship, as this can be very useful in shedding light on other relationships in their lives.

Life’s journey sometimes takes us on an unwanted detour or a journey where we lose direction. It is this passion that I strive to assist those on the path to healing from the hurts of life and finding direction on the journey. Processing of information and experiences is just one portion of the healing process. As individuals we all experience life stressors at some point in our lives. It’s when those same stressors/traumas cause our lives to unravel that I am here to help you get life back in order and on track.

Are you someone who tries to solve problems on your own? If so, you're probably good at it. But it can get lonely. People might assume you’re okay, even when you’re struggling. While these patterns of self-reliance might have supported you in the past, they may be keeping you from becoming the best version of yourself. No matter what you're struggling with, therapy can help you understand these patterns and leave behind what is keeping you from thriving.

As we move through our lives, we are presented with experiences through which we can grow and change. This is true at every stage of our lives, whether we are leaving home for the first time, creating our own families, dealing with relationship loss, or managing our own aging or the aging of loved ones. For healthy growth to occur, we need skills, tools, and support to adapt to changes in our lives. When we do not have these, we experience a myriad symptoms of distress—including depression, anxiety, and exhaustion. I view therapy as a relationship that can help find ways to turn these barriers/challenges into growth opportunities.

The search for a therapist is never easy and I believe fit and comfort are essential in providing effective therapy. I strive to make coming to therapy a comfortable experience and to provide a safe space. I work with people wanting to reduce their anxiety and depression to build skills, gain insight, and increase self-awareness. I find that life transitions, big or small, can have a resounding effect on a person’s well being. Finding balance and building on personal strengths in order to achieve identified goals becomes important in these moments, as well understanding the importance of self-confidence. I strive to work with clients to find themselves and their individual nature that can help them through whatever they may face.

I value collaboration within the therapeutic space in efforts to overcome adversity. I bring a sense of curiosity, empathy, and authenticity into my sessions in effort to let clients know that I am invested in what they have to say. I understand the importance of social and racial justice within therapy and I make sure my clients feel supported. Taking a client's culture, family background, and inter-generational patterns and trauma into account is a vital part of my approach. The act of opening yourself up to the therapeutic process can be scary and vulnerable. I strive to create a sense of safety within that vulnerability.

At some point in our lives, we all go through challenging experiences that seem beyond our ability to manage on our own. Whether it's a life transition, something from our past, or a relationship struggle, these experiences can be overwhelming and may affect our sense of well-being.

I start with a thorough assessment of your current concerns. I take a broad-minded, non-judgmental approach to understanding what you are looking for help with. I try to be helpful by offering feedback and new perspectives and insights. I understand that you have probably already attempted several ways to address your concerns and by now you are most likely frustrated and worried. I will take a proactive and positive approach to your participation by helping you identify your personal strengths and assets that you can then use to develop a new and better response to your concerns.

SPACE for new BCBS Blue Choice/ PPO and Aetna PPO Illinois clients. It's an honor to be trusted with some of the most difficult and personal areas of people's lives. I respect how challenging it can be to come to therapy and speak to a stranger. Many people say they don't want a therapist who "sits quietly and nods" while they talk. I provide a comfortable and safe space for people to share their concerns, and our time together can be conversational and direct. I can be an active partner in your choice to move forward in your life. Therapy is a place to explore together, improve the quality of your life and expand your choices.

Everyone believes you have it all together. The truth is it’s getting harder to get by. Despite your achievements and strengths, you can’t tune out the voice that says, "you’re not good enough". You put yourself last and are often your own worst critic. You're exhausted. You want to build your confidence and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself. You want to set boundaries without the guilt and anxiety. You're ready to make changes but not sure how to start.

Therapy transformed my life when I was referred to a counselor years ago as a teen. Since then, I have wanted to provide this type of support and to serve as a guide for others through difficult times in life. I aspire to help my clients tap into their own inner strengths, so they can ultimately live more freely, fully and authentically. I take a client-centered approach, and help my clients identify their own goals for themselves.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
