The Humanistic approach has and continues to be the form of therapy that most closely matches my sense of the world and how human beings exist within it. Based on the fundamental concept of the power of human growth, it speaks to me of hope and of personal power. Through the identification of individual strengths and the development of empowering coping skills change is possible and issues related to trauma, loss and addiction can be effectively addressed.
It takes courage to try to change things that matter to us - which is why I believe the therapeutic relationship is so valuable. Within that structure, opportunities for growth are explored and enhanced while positive choices are supported. EMDR provides a treatment option for trauma resolution and movement toward healthy integration of difficult life experiences.
Addiction disorders often start with attempts to address painful emotional states. Successful treatment involves resolution of pain on multiple levels through gentle symptom specific therapeutic interventions as supported by an Integrated Harm Reduction approach. Abstinence is not the only path to recovery but one of many options for personal empowerment, growth and change.
