Want more than typical therapy? My approach, The Human Boundaries Model, was created to facilitate the Deep Change you seek. Deep Change happens at the level of your identity and in the rules, assumptions, and beliefs you may hardly be aware of, but that dominate your life without your permission. Once you understand how that system works, you can work the system to make the real and lasting change you desire happen. Paint a new picture of the worth of yourself and others, pursue the goal of excellence in all you do, live life stronger than before and enjoy it more.

We are all whole and more resilient than we believe, but we can forget this at times. Effective therapy demands deep compassion, understanding, and strong guidance. Most of us need performance-based, solutions-focused therapy. Most of us benefit from increased personal accountability. Trauma reactions, anxiety, compulsions, depression and addictions are all forms of communication. You deserve help in decoding these problematic responses and learning better, more adaptive solutions to life's challenges. I'm prepared to help.

The ideal client is someone who wants to get a different perspective, who wants to address personal challenges and recognizes that their life's work is defined by how well they manage those challenges. I am interested in working with people who want to live their best lives. Spiritual emergence is the term that best describes the process of self-discovery and self-actualization. Spirituality in this context is the realization of one's potential and the recognition that the things that get in the way are the inevitable hurdles to transformation.

Hello. I know looking for a therapist can often be frustrating and requires courage. Taking steps toward your overall wellbeing and health are important. With the severity of stressors in our lives today, it is even more important to address the symptoms like anxiety, fear, depression, isolation, and relationship issues present in our lives. Many times these symptoms are effects of traumas, past and/or present that can include childhood abuse, sexual, physical, and psychological abuse, grief, loss, toxic work environments, navigating difficult family situations, and unexpected news.

It is my goal and passion to help anyone struggling with the many facets of substance use, and other struggles to gain recovery, and the freedom to a new way of life. It is my experience that stories may be similar although the road to recovery differs from each individual. My goal is to find those differences that meets the need for each individual.

With experience working in two state hospitals with developmental disabilities and forensic issues, I have worked with numerous major mental disorders and behavioral issues. Currently, I have been working with individuals experiencing anxiety and stress due to today's problems. I especially enjoy working with teens and adults searching for ways to deal with personal issues. I believe in brief therapy, focusing on the issues and searching for cooperative methods of alleviating those issues.

We are wired for connection, and with the potential to grow and live amazing, full lives. However, sometimes we have major obstacles to that growth and connection, whether those obstacles are from the past, or are showing up in the present. But how do we change? Change is one of the most wanted and feared aspects of the human experience. Our most transformative changes come when we are willing to intentionally stretch beyond our comfort zones. This is where therapy can help. I am a therapist practicing evidenced-based, effective therapies that include EMDR, EFT, and CBT.

Many of us unknowingly repeat patterns that keep us stuck or can be harmful and interfere with living our best and most meaningful life. Addiction, anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, self-esteem and relationship issues cause our lives to become more difficult than planned or imagined. Learning how to identify and effectively address what gets in our way can seem overwhelming if we aren't equipped with the appropriate tools to deal with them. Increasing self-awareness can bring us to a state of congruence so what we feel on the inside more clearly matches what we express on the outside.

I have been a Psychologist for over 50 years, focused on holistic treatment of PTSD/trauma, chronic health issues and headaches / pain. I am mainly a Health Psychologist. I started my career with the US Air Force. I ran the most successful PTSD recovery program in the military (2008-15). In the PTSD Clinic, our results showed that PTSD recovery can be possible. I use Neurofeedback to relieve the headaches, memory problems and mental slowing from TBI events. I also do IME evaluations for Veterans. I rarely accept VA coverage (TriWest) and require a referral. I am a Medicare provider.

I believe strongly in the therapeutic relationship and I make sure to co-create with you a healing space where you can feel safe to be you.

Life is messy, and sometimes, so are we. When it becomes overwhelming, we often forget our own strengths and solutions that we've relied on before. Engaging in therapy services can be challenging, as there is such a stigma in asking for help. I offer a warm and non-judgmental approach, with a side of humor if needed. I have worked in multiple settings, including acute psychiatric care, hospitals, schools, and in clinics. I want to continue to help those who want to improve their quality of life in the way they live, think, relate, or connect to others, and how they demonstrate their authentic selves.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
