Our practice is dedicated to the most effective and up to date forms of therapy to help you and your family. We understand that everyone has a different situation from navigating complex relationships to special needs children to eating disorders, depression, etc. We offer free consultations in order to help ensure we are a good fit. We commonly see people who have been to therapy before, but have had poor results. We also find people have complicating factors to their trauma such as ADHD, or the inability to create a sense of safety in order to heal. In such a complicated world we have very complicated obstacles to navigate.

I specialize in treating clients who are struggling with multiple addictions, mood regulation, trauma, behavioral, and relational issues. Many of my clients report struggling with trying to fill a void, feeling lost, or stuck. This may show up as some sort of unhealthy coping mechanism such as an addiction, unhealthy relationships, or a behavioral issue. Only temporary relief may be found until the true underlying issues are addressed. Together we can uncover what is underneath your struggles and address what we find. Facing underlying trauma while concurrently looking at the presenting issues is what I do

I offer Brainspotting, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Biofeedback, Animal Assisted Counseling, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Let’s be honest, being a human is hard! As we navigate the twists and turns of being human in this world, it is far too easy to slip into a diminished version of ourselves. In my work with clients, it is my goal to empower you to step into your self and your power with confidence.

I offer LIFE System biofeedback (fast relief for the nervous system) concerns related to trauma, ADHD, anxiety/panic disorder, depression & trauma.
Welcome! I have been in practice over a decade and have learned that by gaining understanding and compassion for ourselves, our innate healing potential will emerge. I love to help other professionals in the field and I am a AZBBHE clinical supervisor. A quote by Rumi expresses it this way "your task is not to seek love, but to merely seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it" I use a "non-pathologizing lens" to see my clients holistically and help them make connections to how their past experiences have shaped the narratives and emotions they experience today.

I offer a multipronged approach by being officially trained in EMDR psychotherapy, heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback, and EEG neurofeedback.
I connect to foster deep transformative experiences by understanding brains adapt for both functional and dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors. Adaptive survival processes are explored and resolved via EMDR to reduce the impact of past onto the present. Treatment explores brain/body stress response systems to learn to trigger steady not stress. My background in biology and psychology allows valid comprehensive research to guide treatment, using technology such as HRV biofeedback and EEG neurofeedback in addition to psychotherapy. Specialized treatment is offered for neurodivergent folk as I am also a certified Autism ASD clinician.

My approach to therapy is to present information in a powerful, meaningful, personalized way to elicit engagement and personal investment in how base neurological and biological influences affect thoughts that convey to behavioral changes. When Clients become uniquely invested in this process, it gains value, informing daily life improvement that restructure faulty narratives, alters paradigms, and provides the framework where future stimulus or environmental information will be applied.

Someone who had a tremendous impact on my life once told me that while we are wounded in relationships, we are also healed in relationships. This reminder has informed my approach in therapy since the day my very first client sat in front of me. It is my hope that the therapeutic relationship we build together imparts just that upon you: restoration from both the wounds which you are altogether too familiar with, as well as those which you may not know are even there. It’s my privilege to provide the space where you can feel comfortable sharing. Together, we can find hope, as it is never truly lost.

Welcome. My name is Dr. Janna Broxson, and I am the owner and founder of A Pathway Forward to Wellbeing, LLC. I am a Doctor of Behavioral Health (DBH) and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am licensed in Arizona and provide counseling services via teletherapy. I believe that resilience comes from a balance between compassion and self-compassion. Daily tasks and life-related demands often create an imbalance between these essential factors. This can cause us to get all tangled up in unhelpful thoughts, scary emotions, and unwanted behaviors.

Can biofeedback help with anxiety?

Biofeedback is often used to treat anxiety, including generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Anecdotal evidence and some research studies have found that it can improve symptoms of these disorders, sometimes significantly; however, studies on biofeedback have typically been small and researchers have cautioned that many have significant limitations, such as limited follow-up or a lack of a control group.

Is biofeedback evidence-based?

There is some evidence that biofeedback can effectively treat certain conditions; for example, its efficacy in treating headaches and urinary incontinence is generally thought to be well-established. There is also promising, but less conclusive, evidence that it can aid in stroke recovery or help someone manage a mental health disorder such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD.

What is the difference between biofeedback and neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback that measures brain activity specifically; it is typically used to treat psychological or neurodevelopmental concerns such as ADHD, depression, insomnia, or autism spectrum disorder. Biofeedback is a broader category that, in addition to neurofeedback, also includes electromyogram, heart rate variability, and thermal biofeedback, each of which measures a particular physiological function (muscle activity, heart rate, and skin temperature, respectively)

What are the limitations of biofeedback?

While biofeedback may be helpful for certain conditions, its efficacy is less assured for others, such as high blood pressure. People with certain health conditions such as heart arrhythmia may not be able to benefit from biofeedback because their condition may interfere with the machines’ readings. Biofeedback can also be time-consuming and costly, and may not be covered by health insurance.
