Your capacity for change, healing, and growth, is why I do this work. In the 10 years that I have been in the field, courage is what has always shown up at my door. Courage is always what leads us to change. Courage to believe that things could be different, that life doesn't have to feel this way, that I can feel whole. It would be an honor to walk alongside you on your journey from courage to hope.

Life is an ever shifting journey that proves more challenging at certain times than others. The challenges that we face are unique to each of us. It is my belief and the reason this work continues to be my passion, that having safe, compassionate, skilled relationships are what heal us and support our agency (I can!). As a therapist, I strive to offer work that is reparative and restorative to my clients' nervous systems. When clients feel that they belong, have an increased sense of hope and understanding of self, and can take another step forward I believe that I have done a large part of my job.

Life is fast paced and ever changing. At times, it can be difficult to find a balance. My treatment approach is to help individuals and families explore options to meet their goals to challenges. My primary treatment approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral theory, but I also utilize a blend of conventional and alternative therapeutic services (e.g., Mindfulness, Play Therapy, Nature and Ecotherapy) to fit the needs of each client and build on their strengths to achieve their goals.

After 30+ years practicing psychotherapy and marriage counseling, I still find relationships issues to be a major reason why people come to therapy. Relationships can sometimes be too emotionally merged, or too emotionally distant and isolating (however, there are times when relationships feel both merged and isolating all at the same time). My focus is on helping people realize and alter emotional issues that pop up over and over again and consistently inhibit relationships. Sometimes we know we're stuck or lost in a relationship, but we just can't figure out...any way 'out' of what we feel.

**CURRENTLY OFFERING TELETHERAPY SESSIONS in ARIZONA & WASHINGTON** Relationships can be challenging, particularly the ones that are most important to us. We want to feel known, connected and loved but often end up hurt and lonely, stuck in patterns which aren't working. Relational pain can show up as anxiety, fear, depression or grief among other things. I have extensive training in Psychodyamic Therapy. I have also learned directly from masters in the field of Couples Therapy: John & Julie Gottman and Phil Ringstrom to address these very issues.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
