Dr. Ami Owen received her undergraduate degree in Social Science/Psychology. She received her Master’s in Family Therapy with an advanced emphasis on families and trauma. Dr. Owen also received a Doctorate in Counseling and is a Clinically Certified Trauma Professional. She is Licensed in TX, ID, WA, AZ, FL, CA, UT and a nationally approved supervisor through the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). She takes delight in mentoring therapists on the complexities of family systems and consults with providers across the country to improve systems approaches.

Throughout our clinical experience at Better Lives Building Tribes (BLBT), we have learned that people are learning the most about themselves through their interactions with other people. But interactions with other people are complicated and people often need help navigating conflict, conflict resolution, and setting boundaries amidst already struggling self-esteem and self-worth. How we feel about ourselves has everything to do with our ability to defend ourselves, verbalize our own needs, and come up with creative solutions to our interpersonal hurdles. I have worked with clients of all ages and have effectively helped clients find relief from issues such as depression, sexual issues, anxiety, PTSD and communication difficulties. As a relational therapist, I work with couples and relationships of all types, including those in the LGBTQIA+, polyamorous, and kink communities. I also have a great deal of experience working with adolescents suffering from trauma and, oftentimes find it helpful to involve other family members to assist in providing support for one another.

This may be wanting a deeper connection to yourself and others, difficulties with stress, mood, or emotions, trouble adjusting to a life transition/event, relationship challenges, or identity issues. I have over twenty years of experience as a perinatal mental health provider, and a marriage and family therapist and clinical supervisor. I work with individuals, specializing in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use. I have enjoyed working with clients of especially vulnerable populations such as those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (including ASD), those who identify as LGBTQ+, those with histories of trauma, and other minoritized populations. Additionally, I provide individualized clinical supervision to associate-level counselors and therapists working toward independent licensure.

I am currently offering supervision and training to therapists, coaches, and other professionals looking to enhance their ability to work creatively with healing arts, combining ancient wisdom with state of the art contemporary techniques, as well as technology. I draw from EMDR, Hypnotherapy, Shamanic Healing, Tantra, energy healing, ancestral lineage healing, meditation, yoga, ayurveda, dance and movement, and visual art. I work with individuals and couples who are looking for support in truly leveling up, and are done with the old paradigm. I would be honored to hold you accountable to your potential.
