Although I believe that every client deserves a customized approach, my strongest therapeutic modalities are cognitive behavioral, solution focused, and narrative.
Do you struggle with depression or anxiety? Is it hard for you to regulate your emotions? Are you experiencing difficulties with executive functions such as planning, organization, and concentration? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I am here to help. My main reason for being a mental health provider is because I Iove encouraging, listening to, and empowering others. I use a strengths based approach and will support you in rewriting a narrative for your life full of hope. Please know that it will be my privilege to accompany you for a bit of your life journey and that I want to be a support and resource for you.

In Buddhist philosophy, "pain is inevitable, suffering is optional." The story of the Buddha and the two arrows explains this well – while the first arrow may cause physical or emotional pain, the second arrow is one’s reaction to it – the self-talk, the self-blame, and negative thoughts that amplify the pain. Counseling can help you put down the second arrow and transform your suffering into growth, learning and resilience.

My ideal clients are those that have struggled with addictions, children of alcoholic parents or loved ones, trauma, anxiety, narcissist abuse, and relationship issues, and are motivated for change. Clients who feel stuck. By creating safety, structure, and consistency in the counseling environment, my clients are better able to ground themselves, creating a stable, regulated, incremental mindset. I’m here for that.

I have just relocated to the Valley and plan on using my experience and training in Geriatrics and Chronic Illness. I approach any situation using a strength based perspective, and reviewing current relationships. I have counseled many on loss and have been successful with clients utilizing meaning inspired psychotherapy. If you are undergoing a life transition, our work together will be an opportunity to understand and modify patterns of behavior that are no longer working for you.

Does life fell like an out-of-control rollercoaster? It doesn’t have to be so draining, and relationships don’t have to be so tricky! Sometimes, we just need someone to help us understand our "whys." We all need guidance to organize our thoughts, challenge limiting beliefs, heal past traumas, and become empowered to live as our most authentic selves. The first step is finding a partner on this journey. As a Licensed Associate Counselor in Arizona, I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, to include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a form of talk therapy that helps you see how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected.

I have been investing in individuals and families for over 20 years. I am passionate about impacting lives, partnering with others, and equipping those I serve to live a life of vitality. Seeking relief, healing, and change is usually very personal. It isn't something you do every day. Most of us seek more support when we are feeling stuck or even overwhelmed. When we meet, we will talk about the challenges that brought you to my office, and we will work together to tailor sessions to meet your hopes, goals and personal needs.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
