I have worked with a diverse population with various life stressors such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and various personal growth issues.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Therapy with Heart. I have a passion for empowering people to grow and make changes in their life. My style of therapy is unique because it focuses on working with you to find YOUR answers...whatever they may be. It takes courage to decide to enter therapy and until you feel safe and comfortable, it is challenging to create change. Therefore, I structure the session around mindfulness, emphasizing strengths, and collaborating together on the work.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a specialization in Trauma, Abuse, and Deprivation.
Finding your way to therapy can be a challenge. Even getting this far shows self-awareness, courage, motivation, and the ability (as slight as it may be) to consider that things could be different. Together we can discover your goals for therapy and how I can help you achieve them. I work from a client centered model and highly value trust within the therapeutic relationship. I would describe my therapeutic style as nonjudgmental, empathetic, and direct. I often find that humor and levity can also bring surprising depth to sessions. I work with children, teens, and adults. Currently, I have openings for teens and adults.

My experience working with with neurodivergent people through Trauma-Focused CBT, DBT, and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy will help identify what is impacting you the most.
The greatest power we have is our ability to choose one thought over another. It’s not the situation that affects us, it’s our interpretation. Sometimes it’s hard to take control and begin the process of change, but together we can work to bring mental clarity and mindfulness to begin experiencing life in a whole new light. There is resilience in us all and in our darkest moments we lose sight of our capabilities. No matter where you are in your journey, know there is always another way.

I work with people who have experienced trauma, grief, and loss.
Hi, I’m Cynthia. Welcome to Desert Somatics & Psychotherapy. In this practice, I endeavor to create a safe, healing space for people to work with the most vulnerable parts of themselves. When you are facing anxiety, depression, burnout, overwhelm, grief and loss, or the residual effects of traumatic situations or experiences, it can feel insurmountable. My passion is helping people to take the big, scary events, feelings, thoughts, and life experiences they are facing and to break them down into manageable pieces we can work through together. In so doing, we find that healing and repair are possible.

I provide a caring and safe environment for clients experiencing difficulty in their relationships (romantic/family/friendships), life transitions, trauma, and any stress causing clients a disturbance. I view problems from a systems approach and study interactional and communication breakdowns. Emotional problems derive from faulty patterns in early life and often compound in severity. What makes my practice unique is how I navigate the mind/body/energy connection. Using all the modalities I’ve learned produces an effective treatment plan to work on your mental health.

Men are often forgotten about when it comes to emotional wellness. We’ve been told “be strong” ”you’re a man you can handle it”, “just pick yourself up by your bootstraps”. It's okay to need to need help. It's okay to get support. If your life is not going the way you hoped, your relationship's are not what you envisioned, I can help you rediscover joy and live your best life. If your struggling with infidelity, compulsive behaviors, depression or anxiety, Reach out! I promise it'll be worth it.

I specialize in helping individuals and couples work through symptoms of trauma and overwhelming relational experiences.
Are you feeling disconnected from yourself and loved ones leaving you in a cycle of pain? Or maybe it's difficult to be present, because you find your thoughts and perceptions rooted in your past. Clients I've worked with often show tremendous creativity in coping with overwhelming life experiences, but often these creative coping mechanisms play a role in their continued suffering. I've helped people like you understand & modify outdated methods of coping so that life can become fulfilling & meaningful instead of a painful struggle. You deserve support as you improve communication, set boundaries, and process past or current pain.

Did you know that trauma doesn't consist only of the obvious things like being in a war or a car accident? Those are called "big T" traumas, and not everyone experiences them. Everyone experiences "little t" traumas, though, like being teased in school or growing up in an unhappy family. "Little t" traumas add up; they contribute to depression, anxiety, addictions, codependency, low self-esteem, and other mental health issues. Chances are that "big T" and/or "little t" traumas have something to do with why you're seeking therapy. After a while, you get tired of trying to cope with these things on your own.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
