Jamila Johnson, MA, LPC, CCTP-II. JJ is an independently licensed clinical therapist and certified trauma professional. As a cognitive-behavioral therapist, she provides comprehensive counseling, diagnosis and treatment for mood and personality disorders, anxiety and trauma, substance abuse and life coaching, as well as career counseling and life skills for adults.

My ideal intake and assessment client is one who may be nervous to try therapy for the first time and has racked up the bravery and courage to reach out for this first appointment. I honor this and will put these clients at ease and make them feel as a welcome guest in our home.

My passion for psychology started when I needed to understand myself at 27 years of age and my journey began. Through the years I continued to study; work with therapists and Ph.D,'s; heal items in my own life and received profound positive changes for my efforts. I decided to return to school and obtain my degree in the field that I love so I can help others on their journey. I have provided psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and seniors. I have worked with individuals who have health issues who need support. My approach is client centered, optimistic and strength based.

I strongly believe in the importance of the family. Each individual is important in the family system and brings a different dynamic into it. I enjoy working with individuals and families: both parent/child and sibling relationships. While I am most passionate about working with individuals suffering with trauma/PTSD, anxiety/depression, the family relationship needs support as well, particularly with challenging children. Sometimes an outside perspective can help us see things differently. Challenges in a family are guaranteed, but with some encouragement and support, we can become stronger through those challenges.

I have worked in non profits and for the community mental health in CA and also worked in Sedona, AZ. I have education in CBT and Motivational Interviewing and my style is soft gentle but persuasive.

Kara enjoys at working with a diverse group of clientele.She especially connects easily with teens, as well as adults. She specializes in depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and behavioral concerns. Meeting the client where they are is her motto. She has experience working with clients that have had weight loss surgery and the effects that surgery can have on everyday life and relationships. Kara also has a passion for working with athletes who are struggling with the pressure of being a student athlete or transitioning out of sports due to injury. She enjoys working with couples and families to create stronger bonds.

My ideal client might struggle with depression, trauma, or anxiety. They will be goal-oriented and driven, willing to be vulnerable. Their goals would be to decrease feelings of depression or anxiety. I work with clients to identify past unresolved trauma, often an underlying issue contributing to one's current negative or dysfunctional behaviors and feelings. My goal is to help individuals work through their past trauma and learn new, effective ways to cope with their feelings, behaviors, and problematic thoughts in a compassionate environment.

It can be quite confusing and discouraging when our thoughts, emotions and relationships seem chaotic, dysfunctional and hopeless. I use several experiential techniques including equine-assisted therapy, yoga, somatic experiencing, hypnosis, art therapy, Bemer therapy, sensory therapy & dog-assisted therapy along with IFS-informed equine parts work.
