As your therapist, I hope to create a space of support where you can begin to heal; whether it be from past trauma, current stressors, or anxieties about the future. I hope to support you as you recover from any of the challenges life may have brought you - trauma, depression or anxiety, addiction, relationship and attachment issues, or codependency. I have experience working with a wide range of populations which includes adults as well as young people. My therapeutic approach is informed by my experience with somatic practices like yoga and meditation as well as recovery from addiction.

I work primarily with older adults who are dealing with depression/anxiety, grief/loss, aging, illness, isolation, addiction, loss of a sense of purpose and family issues. I also work with individuals who have experienced trauma whether it be from childhood experiences, a single incident, or multiple traumas, and the resulting conditions that may develop.

My training and practice have been in health and rehabilitation psychology. This primarily includes working with adults who have incurred medical illness and/or injury necessitating psychological adaptation and adjustment. Additionally, I work with adults for issues related to substance use disorders and other addictions, depressive and bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, difficulty in relationships, and management of chronic pain.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults to navigate life's challenges. My mission is to provide a compassionate and trauma-informed environment where you can explore your feelings, overcome obstacles, and achieve personal growth. I believe that everyone has the potential for growth and transformation. Various concerns may include navigating emotional regulation, anxiety and depression, coping with life transitions, trauma, relational trauma, social skills development, coping with grief/loss, and coping with family changes. I am here to help you navigate your journey towards healing and resilience.

I have over thirty years of experience, dealing with helping people change and grow. My wish is that we can collaborate together, and that I help you reach your most authentic self. Monty Shultz Counseling prides itself in building relationships will all clients. I enjoy working with adults both on an individual basis as well as with couples/marital therapy. I am only scheduling appointments with adults ages 19 and over. I am a believer in client centered practice. After moving to Prescott from Nebraska in June 2023, I have immediate openings.

Melisa is a Licensed Associate Counselor with more than 14 years’ experience working with clients of all ages as well as adults with serious mental illness. Her approach is client-centered and holistic utilizing some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing as well as life coaching tools. She also includes bibliotherapy, journaling, and mindfulness as therapeutic tools. Melisa prefers working with adults and couples focusing on anxiety, social anxiety, boundaries, communication, codependency, attachment styles, CBT tools, some parts work, job/career stress, and questions regarding the search for one’s life purpose.
