Couples Counseling Therapists in Pima County, AZ
This drive comes from having grown up in the military and becoming the spouse of a Veteran.
Taking new patients 14 years and older. Virtual appointments available. The hardest step in the journey to self-care is asking for help. Every individual is different in how they process emotions and difficult experiences. Together, we will focus on a person-centered approach that builds on your strengths and identifies the barriers. We will develop skills that allow you to be present, while acknowledging the past and building your future. We will use a broad array of therapy methods that fits your individual needs and goals.

Together with my patients, I help them gain insight and learn new tools aimed at improving their well-being, mood, and relationships. I believe everyone can grow and improve. In therapy, a journey of healing begins and new understandings are made to assist in the growth that is possible. I see children of all ages and work with adolescents, adults and couples. As a native Spanish speaker, I focus on cultural sensitivity. I work with English and Spanish patients.

As a previous Clinical Director and Trauma Therapist at a Treatment Center for Eating Disorders, I gained experience with Family Therapy, Adults, Couples and Teens.
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Ralph Waldo Emerson. Using a holistic approach in therapy we will explore the mind, body and spirit connection. We will learn balance and build resilience through the power of self-discovery, thus improving your quality of life. Negative thought patterns and beliefs will be identified and challenged through DBT, mindfulness, and EMDR. When needed we may create healthy eating habits and a healthy relationship with exercise. Cultivating your spirituality to relieve fear and nurture an attitude of gratitude and abundance is encouraged.

Are you ready for a change? If therapy has been unhelpful in the past, I would love to discuss a personalized approach with you. I have experience working with adults, teens, children, groups, families, and couples, first responders, active-duty military, and veterans. When life hits hard, it’s good to talk to someone in a safe space. I will hold a space for you to embrace your feelings and vulnerability. I will listen, notice, and challenge you to take emotional risks. I don't believe in a one size fits all approach. Therapy happens at your pace.

I love supporting both adults and children in navigating a wide range of life's challenges, including depression, anxiety, substance use, intense anger, trauma, and relationship difficulties. Many of the individuals I work with feel overwhelmed or emotionally stuck, seeking a path forward toward greater clarity and emotional balance. They are motivated to gain insight, develop effective coping strategies, and foster healthier relationships, ultimately striving for personal growth and resilience.

I help individuals and couples safely address and work toward resolving trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem and relationship challenges.
Lived experiences are vast and varied and I believe there is profound healing within our ability to embark on honest and compassionate exploration of our unique stories in the name of growth and change. Some of our stories are deeply rooted in generational trauma and suppression of our authentic selves for survival. This can make it difficult to truly know and trust ourselves. I understand how important it is to find the right therapist that can walk with you on your quest for clarity, growth and healing in a way that honors your story, free of shame and judgment.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I treat individuals, families, and couples through a systemic lens.
Connection is a basic need of every human being. We find these connections in everyday life, whether waking up next to our partner, having dinner with our kids, or even making eye contact with someone at the grocery store. But sometimes, things get complicated. We may be struggling with our own issues or having difficulty in a relationship which impedes our ability to connect with others. At times like this, we may not know how to fix things and that’s where therapy comes in. Together, we can work towards creating meaningful change in your personal life and relationships.

Our relationship with painful thoughts and feelings tends to be one of avoidance, which creates an agenda that restricts your life.
Why Therapy? The short answer? Because you're human. Me too. And one thing I know about humans, is that we all suffer. We all experience pain and have a natural inclination to escape it. And when all of our efforts to escape, avoid, and struggle against our pain prove to be fruitless, we are wise to ask for help. It is only the wise who seek wisdom. So I am deeply honored to meet the wisest of our community, and that is just the way I see you.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
