I am a level three Gottman Method trained couples therapist.
There are times in our lives when we need help restoring our relationships. As a therapist with 30 years of marriage experience, and significant clinical training, I believe working together I can help you reach your goals. As a therapist I have seen that two things seem to be necessary to start the healing process, mercy and empathy. When a person experiences mercy, it opens them up to experiencing empathy for the other. Using Gottman Method Couples therapy as the foundation, I will work together with you to accomplish the restoration of your relationship.

Since practicing for 22+ years, I am trained in many best practice modalities: IFS, EMDR, DBT, ACT, EFT, Gottman Method, Sex therapy, Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy & others.
Your ability to seek out resources amidst the pain is a magnificent part of you, and I want to speak to that part. It is important that you remember that growth and healing is not about fixing what is “wrong” with you because you are not broken. Instead of fixing, our time together will be an exploration of all parts of you, one of curiosity and compassion, designed to unearth and liberate the wisdom that already exists inside of you. Going to therapy doesn’t mean that you can’t handle life’s challenges on our own. Rather, it’s a gift that you give yourself to stay mentally and emotionally fit.

As a therapist with specialized clinical training in the Gottman Method and experience working in a clinical setting, I look forward to helping you achieve the peace you desire within yourself, and in your relationships.
Strong, healthy relationships are the foundation for an emotionally healthy life. Unfortunately, there may be brokenness within our romantic, familial, and spiritual relationships that can affect all areas of our lives. Our experiences of the past may haunt us in the present, affect our current relationships, and dim our confidence for the future.

Khara uses the Gottman Method, based on 40+ years of research, to assist couples to building a healthy relationship.
You and your partner have drifted apart. Lives are busy and there's no time to have those heart-to-heart talks. You're missing intimacy and sex is nonexistent. Tension and conflict have become more present than they once were. Neither of you are ready to give up, but you both know your relationship won't last if it continues on this trajectory. Your relationship is worth saving and you're both ready for change. If this sounds like you, the time is now. Let's get started.

This is approached from a trauma-informed lens with an Internal Family Systems foundation and the possible integration of other methods including, but not limited to, EMDR, Brainspotting, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, DBT skills, and the Gottman Method.
I work with adults who have experienced trauma or life events that have resulted in unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. You might notice them presenting as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and problems with relationships or performance. With a background in nursing, I appreciate how harmony between our thoughts, emotions, body, and spirit influences our health. Exploring those areas along with your life experiences, values, beliefs, and burdens, and identifying your internal resources helps to create more space for self-acceptance and change.

I offer sex therapy for couples and individuals and I utilize a trauma-informed approach to the Gottman Method for couples.
From your earliest memory until now, there have been countless versions of you. You are not a fixed, autonomous entity consistent across time, but rather fluid and continuously changing. In each new moment you have the opportunity to create who you want to be in the next. Sometimes in these moments, however, you might begin to define yourself, others, or the world in a way that impairs mental health. These shifting perspectives may also be particularly evident in your most intimate relationships, leading to patterns or cycles that can be hard to break. As a therapist, I'm interested in root causes rather than treating symptoms.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
