I specialize in EMDR Therapy with an attachment-focused approach to help heal trauma and wounds that traditional talk therapy may not fully address.
Are you dealing with symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, loss, depression, or relationship issues? I might be the therapist you need to navigate these challenges. Together, we’ll identify and reprocess the information stored in your mind that’s causing distress. By working collaboratively, we’ll desensitize and reintegrate these memories, aiming to reduce or eliminate their impact. My goal is to help you move beyond the past, manage or find joy in life, and restore hope for the future.

I also offer consultation for therapists training in EMDR or working toward certification.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Often it is hard to see. Sometimes the issues we are dealing with can feel like they are crushing us. The cycle of depression and anxiety might feel never-ending. It can get better! These issues could stem from traumatic life events. Perhaps we are just overwhelmed juggling work, life, and family, and have lost sight of ourselves. Sometimes we struggle to work things out. We all need a little help and guidance at times. I use an integrative approach to assist clients in navigating difficult periods in their lives. I work with adults 18 years and older.

Utilizing EMDR Therapy, DBT, and ACT.
Leaving religion can be a daunting decision and process. You're likely worried about what your family and friends will say if you tell them that you no longer believe in the theologies and doctrines that were central to your religious experience. You're likely worried about losing your sense of belonging and community. The grief and loss of friendships, marriages, and family (amongst many things) are very real while leaving religion. Religious Trauma Syndrome (RTS), coined by Dr. Marlene Winell, has similarities to numerous mental health disorder symptoms including PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

You’ve probably considered that there is a reason you keep making the same choice over and over again. You’ve probably even read some self-help books or perhaps sought out therapy in the past. Perhaps it’s the trauma history or being burnt out carrying the burden of others. Hi, my name is Cara and I specialize in helping people get unstuck. Unstuck from problematic behaviors or the trauma narratives that may have shaped you. When working with me you can expect someone who will bring actionable tools and resources to your therapeutic journey.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
