When something isn't working, when you’re feeling stuck, or when you’re amidst a transition in life, you may find yourself outside of your comfort zone. This can feel uncomfortable, unsettling, or even scary at times. This can also be a beneficial time to get to know yourself and your relationships more. If you're struggling with the above or noticing challenges with anxiety, depression, a life transition, relationship distress, parenting stress, or ambiguous loss, I have experience working with these issues.

Many of us unknowingly repeat patterns that keep us stuck or can be harmful and interfere with living our best and most meaningful life. Addiction, anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, self-esteem and relationship issues cause our lives to become more difficult than planned or imagined. Learning how to identify and effectively address what gets in our way can seem overwhelming if we aren't equipped with the appropriate tools to deal with them. Increasing self-awareness can bring us to a state of congruence so what we feel on the inside more clearly matches what we express on the outside. I believe we all have the ability

You might have tried so much on your own that you feel anxious or depressed just reading this profile.
Depression, Music, and Arts Emphasis - I hope you're doing alright today. Okay, I AM a licensed therapist, and I've worked with people who struggle with all kinds of mood, substance, and relationship issues. That said, I think lo-fi chill mixes and animes like Spirited Away and Neon Genesis Evangelion have been some of the most helpful comforts for many people the last few years. We all need supports and something to do, and we need to feel okay when when we're alone. I was a recording engineer, musician, and videographer before I became a therapist, and I like to help people find their own voice and center.

I use evidenced based practices when working with people experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty with life transitions and difficulty in relationships.
Hi there, I'm Heather. I believe that each of us has the capacity to grow, heal and learn to live in harmony with our life's purpose. In our work together I use playfulness, kindness, compassion and accountability to help you tap into your inherent strengths in order to navigate life's challenges. Together we will uncover patterns that are keeping you stuck and explore different ways to cope, leading to a more peaceful and satisfying life. I especially love working with clients on building self awareness and practicing self compassion. These two concepts can lead to a life of intention, confidence and integrity.

The initial step can be both uncertain and anxiety-provoking, particularly if you are not familiar with therapy.
If you are searching for someone who listens attentively and truly hears what you have to say, I'm that person. I like people in general, but my clients always hold a special place in my heart. I believe that the genuine and trusting professional connection between client and therapist is the key to helping people heal from traumatic circumstances in their lives.

Through mindfulness and other therapeutic approaches, we’ll explore why you may be feeling anxious, identify unhelpful beliefs and narratives, and build your confidence in tackling life's many challenges.
I help young adults and twenty-somethings understand and reduce their anxiety, perfectionism, self criticism, and sense of feeling lost in life. I focus on major life transitions (such as loss of a relationship, grief, and/or those starting college/learning to navigate adulthood) and healing and growing from past trauma. I am trained in EMDR, which is a common method for trauma treatment. As a therapist, I create a safe space for others where they can feel fully seen, heard, and supported in sharing their unique story and achieving their personal goals.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
