It can be tough to take the first step into therapy and I commend you for the courage it takes to get started. If you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed, reactive toward others, struggling to perform at your best, or having sleep issues - these are common signs of someone with unresolved stress or trauma. If you're looking for tools to help you truly change, achieving the life you know you’re capable of, we should talk.

Since practicing for 22+ years, I am trained in many best practice modalities: IFS, EMDR, DBT, ACT, EFT, Gottman Method, Sex therapy, Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy & others.
Your ability to seek out resources amidst the pain is a magnificent part of you, and I want to speak to that part. It is important that you remember that growth and healing is not about fixing what is “wrong” with you because you are not broken. Instead of fixing, our time together will be an exploration of all parts of you, one of curiosity and compassion, designed to unearth and liberate the wisdom that already exists inside of you. Going to therapy doesn’t mean that you can’t handle life’s challenges on our own. Rather, it’s a gift that you give yourself to stay mentally and emotionally fit.

I use EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy.
I work with kids, tweens, and teens who are struggling. You’ve noticed they’re not as interested in their friends, school, or activities they used to love. They have difficulty sleeping and complain of aches and pains. They were outgoing but now they’re anxious. Or something unimaginable has happened to your family- and you've tried to help your child, and it's not working. Maybe you’re not sure what’s causing this behavior - you’re worried you’re parenting wrong when all you want to do is love and support your child.

Negative life situations manifest differently for different people. Sometimes it causes a severe trauma response in the body, like PTSD. Other times it looks like making life decisions based on negative core beliefs, such as I’m not good enough, my needs don’t matter, I’m a failure… (insert belief here). Both paths can lead to depression, anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, and can cause you to relive your past over and over or constantly worry about the future.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
