My specialty is working with those who struggle with identity issues, and self-harming, have experienced trauma, and experience highs and lows.
I have been practicing counseling for six years. I specialize in trauma, CPTSD, and personality disorders by using integrated trauma-informed modalities. I have experience with individuals transitioning through major life changes, mood disorders, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. After working with children and families in-home, I worked with individuals gaining what I believe are the most important tools in therapy; patience and acceptance. I am passionate about system issues impacting our culture, providing holistic care, and being genuine with my clients.

Looking for a therapist can suck! Where do you look? Will they 'get' me? You may feel like your stuff is too big or too small or you may have even had a bad experience in the past. We are all about helping clients to learn more about themselves in an effort to manage emotions, address patterns, and navigate life's challenges in ways that are personal and are not going to come in a blue print out of a heavy book. Our practice ensures that you are comfortable and able to develop trust and openness in sessions by creating an environment that feels very "down-to-earth" and human. If this is your vibe, check us out! sanitycenter.org

Waitlist for new clients
I have a wait list currently....Many people struggle with shame. Shame is the belief "something is wrong with you". You know that nagging voice that shows up from time to time telling you "You're not good enough". Shame comes from our experiences in life. Each experience especially in our younger years creates beliefs about ourselves which can create struggles including depression, anxiety and low self esteem.

I believe that each individual is unique and thus the approach to therapy should be tailored to each person's needs. Regardless of what approach may be helpful in treating the specific challenge, I think the key to success is having a strong therapeutic relationship. I focus on providing empathetic, compassionate, and knowledgeable interventions.

As a social worker, my goal is to help others reach their goals and overcome their struggles. Coming from a background of community mental health, I believe that everyone deserves to have their voice heard, believed, and understood. I work with people of all backgrounds and needs. Compassionate care is important to me, and I strive to be a safe person with whom others can connect. I am not the expert in my clients' lives', and therefore aim to collaboratively face and work through clients' struggles with them.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
